Horns at Texas tech

No. I was a glass overflowing in the first half. So don’t judge.
There have been few road wins in the entire B12 this year. And the league is expanded. So this win by 12 points is Huge. There was no way the horns were going to win by 20+ points. Ttu is too good and our offense wasn’t going to stay that hot for 40 minutes.
It was a win to be proud of. The team has had earned the right to feel great about this win. There was no limping to the finish. It’s always a battle in Lubbock.

Winning on the road is tough and this is the one they had to get as tceh had a key player out and has been up and down lately. Still a very good win in a hostile place. There have been plenty of road wins in the big 12 (henceforth known as the island of unwanted toys) this year.

Tech had all but quit until Brock pulled his stupid, dirty move. We would have cruised, the crowd would have cried quietly into their meth infused fireball bottles before slinking home to acquire a new case of Raider Rash with some equally drugged out skank, and that would have been that.

Instead, we got to see the crowd show their true spirit (and I'm not being complimentary here) with the "**** UT" chanting, and bottle throwing, and it made Tech play much, much harder down the stretch than they otherwise would have.

The only good thing about what Cunningham did is that it revealed on national TV why Texas isn't returning to Lubbuttock any time soon, if ever. Good riddance to really bad trash.

Circumstances and what happened aside, that was a huge road win. Now Texas has gotta take care of business at home with the Okie schools and finish 9-9 in the conference, which will all but guarantee a tournament berth,

I'm shocked to see this sort of crowd hooliganism from Tech fans. They're normally such a beacon of class and sportsmanship.

Man alive, we're sure gonna miss those guys.

Back up to #33 in the NET rankings. We can probably continue to hover there with W's over OK State and OU. No team ranked better than #37 in the NET has missed the tournament, but it's a REALLY heavy year for mediocrity with plenty of at-large teams hanging out around that level. I'm thinking we lock it down with the home games, or at worst, we lose one of the home games and finish with 19 regular season wins and get one in the conference tournament to end up a 10-seed.

I wonder if one of the objects thrown on the floor last night actually struck a player or coach. You could see that Brock was livid in the huddle as the referees discussed his fate. Terry and Disu appeared to be overly upset as well. That’s is, unless someone was struck.

overly upset

Have you ever attended a Texas game in Lubbock? This is minor compared to some of the crap I've seen in the Jones parking lots. tceh fans have acted like this for years and ok maybe Cunningham started it all. But if not, they would've found reason for more of their moronic behavior. Screw everything about that place, good riddance.

I think if not for Cunningham’s error we win by 30. Tech was flat and the crowd was silent up until that point in the second half. In fact, I heard absolutely no booing after about the 17 minute mark of the first half. He ignited their team and fans. They only got and stayed raucous after that. There would have been no moronic behavior. They would have left in shock and shame. Instead they left outraged and rightfully so. Brock’s decision was a football play and if it happened to a Horn I would have been pissed too. Frankly, to the uninformed and uninitiated, we look like the bad guys.

Even for many of us wearing burnt orange it was a bad guy move. I'd imagine our fans would react similarly, minus the object throwing and comments made with poorly educated English. End of the day, glad to walk out with a win and even more glad to walk out for hopefully the last time.

What should Terry do?
Great question.

I think first I would have a private conversation and ask him what the hell he was doing. I assume that was done in the locker room, on the flight back, or this morning. Depending on the answer, which I assume would be something like I was competing hard, too hard, and I wanted to win so badly that I lost myself for a moment. If that was his response, then I would ask if he’d like to address the team about it, if he hadn’t already volunteered to do that. Then I would move forward. That’s it.

Cunningham minutes will probably go down some. The officials are going to call a foul on him if he gets within two feet of a player and any contact will be called against him, even if he has been squared up and in the same position for ten seconds and gets run over by the opposing player. Block, not a charge.

You’re probably correct, although I hope it doesn’t last more than the next game. Although it was recklessly aggressive, I can only think of one other time where he made a super hard foul that led to a skirmish (but I can’t remember when). The bottom line that we shouldn’t forget is that he’s a lifetime Horn, not an opportunist or hired gun. He’s bled for the team and for us for six years. This is the end for him. He probably only has about 5-7 games left. For those last few games to be ruined by some punitive carryover by the officials would be just as wrong as what he did. He was ejected, Tech got and made their free throws, and then got the ball. Tech and their fans got involved and made a run. Most importantly, no one was injured. So, I think, the justice is served.

Agree but it wasn’t more than a good old fashion hello body check. There are just as many hard shoves and elbows thrown in every week of college basketball. And it sure wasn’t as hard as the shot Abmas caught to the forehead.

Difference being that the Abmas hit to the head was a basketball play and Brock’s body check - into the scorer’s table - was intentional. Honestly, there’s really no comparing the situations.

The body check was intentional while chasing a loose ball, didn’t imply otherwise, but they were both hard fouls. Not arguing if one was moral vs the other one.

Hats off to Texas for a solid win. We caught them on a very poor shooting night which has happened to us numerous times as well but we were on the good side tonight.

Watching Disu in the first half, just made me think of what could have been last year if he hadn’t gotten injured. I think they could have given even UConn a game.

I’ve been saying the same thing. We easily beat Miami with Dudu and then we have two home games in Houston for the Championship. I like our chances.
