Elite 8 Texas vs NC State

One thing this game did is expose where Texas needs to get better if Vic expects to get to the FF. He probably shoulda gone to a zone sooner but Amazon woman woulda had more points inside. But giving up 2 is better than 3 and maybe Texas woulda been in the game at the end, who knows.

If was still a helluva season all things considered and the future is bright. These ladies deserve a helluva lot of credit for the obstacles they overcame and still made the E8.

Not to mention that we already have exactly that on our roster - a young lady who came in as a forward and was pressed in to duty as our point guard. Seemed to me she created her own shot extremely well, and that she might just become a fabulous oversized 2 guard instead of a 3 or stretch 4. We shall see how it all plays out, and I can't wait.
Texas is about to move to a much tougher conference with much better athletes than they've seen in the Big 12. They need guards like the NC State guards that they couldn't create their own shot against or stay in front of. Gonzalez and Holle are good players, but they lack the athleticism and skill to create and defend athletic guards consistently.

Trust me, Jordan Lee is coming in next year and she will play MAJOR minutes at the 2 guard... could very well be a starter. I expect Preston to play a lot also. There's not enough video out there for me to fully evaluate her game, but she has gotten high praise from Vic. He's compared her to Rori so...
IMO Jordan Lee is more of a wing than a guard. One of the issues is that Vic has too many wing/small forward types and not enough quick twitch athletic combo/2 guards. Although Preston does have some quick twitch athleticism and I think she will get a lot of playing time.

Ok, but what does that have to do with the multiplicity of positions that Booker can perform at a plus level for us? That was the gist of my post.

With Rori hopefully returning next year, Booker will be better playing her natural position on the wing.
Absolutely! The silver lining this season was Booker having to learn the value of every possession, and getting accustomed to handling the ball a lot. She will be a second facilitator on the floor from the wing when needed.

I suspect the top story all off-season will be Rori's recovery arc. I'm prepared to not have her playing until early 2025, and if she is healthy beforehand, well, BONUS!

Craig Way stated in the post-game yesterday that he's been told Rori is ahead of schedule in her rehab.
I get that and I am happy to hear it. That doesn't necessarily mean she will be playing on it because there is a lot more to returning from an ACL than just physical rehab.

Finally, NCAA fesses up:
The NCAA explained the process for painting the lines on the tournament courts.

“For all NCAA courts, a small hole is punched in the floor at each end of the court that indicates ‘center-of-basket’ during the finishing process. A calibrated vinyl-tape device is then placed in the hole, which lays the 2-inch game line to be painted,” the NCAA said.

“After the conclusion of the Elite Eight game and a subsequent team practice, the NCAA worked with a Connor Sports-certified technician to inspect the court markings in Portland. Review of the Portland court found the center-hole was punched in the wrong position, which resulted in the incorrect arc measurement for the 3-point line. The center-hole was placed approximately 9 inches from the center of the basket, causing the arc of the 3-point line to be approximately 9 inches short at the apex of the arc.”

The error only affected the 3-point line’s apex, the NCAA said.

[blah, blah, blah]

“We apologize for this error and the length of time for which it went unnoticed. Simply put, this court did not meet our expectations, and the NCAA should have caught the error sooner,” the NCAA said.

“We will work with all of the NCAA’s suppliers and vendors to establish additional quality control measures to ensure this does not happen in future tournaments.”
