Cal Poly SLO Series--3 Game SWEEP!

Wow!

And we thought Campbell had a great arm in Right Field!
Well, I think Campbell does have a great arm. Sounds like Borba's arm may be like Scott Bryant's: otherworldly. I don't know of any videos as he was here in the late 80's, and I don't recall any right field-to-3rd base putouts, but he threw lasers.

Another Longhorn great, no doubt.

I think it was Belyeu that he was talking about.

Now Borba looks like he has a lot of power at the plate, as does Belyeu.

Cal Poly SLO:

Jakob Wright was even better than advertised.

Brooks is pretty good.

Their bats were even colder than expected, but credit much of that to our pitching staff.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I THINK I heard on the radio that this is the first 27 consecutive inning shut out stretch since 2002 and the first time ever we've had a shut out 3 game sweep. EVER.

Team ERA is now 1.44. This was an amazing pitching weekend. I guess Pierce made a good decision to take over pitching coach duties.

I just watched the play where Belyeu threw out the runner going from 1st to 3rd, it was a heck of a play, perfect throw and from where he was stationed in RF.

 In the top of the 3rd, a runner is on second with 1 out and a ground ball hit to RF, third base coach holds him up!!! Folks, this is almost an automatic run. The scoreless game Sunday is as much because of Belyeu in RF and his arm and accuracy as the guys on the mound, in fact without Belyeu they score a run.

Belyeu belongs in RF rest of the season, I’ve seen enough. :hookem:

Belyeu has an Andre Dawson level arm in RF. I didn't think we'd ever see another RF with an arm as good as Dylan Campbell, but.........................Enter Belyeu.

Tumis gives up lead off walk but then gets three pitch K, a ground out and the another K to complete the 27 inning weekend shutout for the Texas staff and finish the 7-0 win today.
Tumis -- he's got the "it" factor and the best breaking ball sauce of anyone on the team. He could become one of our greats. I favor keeping him at reliever. Now if he could gain 10-15 lbs of muscle, his fastball might get up well into the 90s.

Campbells skill was getting rid of the ball quickly AND accurately, his arm wasn’t bad. Difference is Belyeu has a better arm and appears to be just as accurate. He didn’t release that ball quickly Sunday but it was there in time and exactly where it needed to be for the tag to be made.

I like our young pitchers, Howard and Tumis both looked good. Hamilton and Boehm look good.

On another note, Borba was seeing the ball well Sunday and was hitting line drives. He looks like he’s seeing the ball as well as Thomas is.

A lot of good looking pieces to this team, pitching looks serviceable, we will know more about how good after this weekend when we face better competition.

As for the defense, with Belyeu in RF, Thomas in CF, Kennedy at 2nd, Flores at ss it’s a formidable defense. Galvan is improving behind the plate.

Our Achilles heal right now is the middle part of the batting order standing runners.

On the pitching, LBJ is the sort of pitcher who could finish the year with an ERA around 2.00 (or even sub-2.00) against good competition. An All-American.

If both Hurley and Howard can both pitch at a sub-4.00 ERA level over the course of the year, we're in business. Our lineup will score some runs, and the bullpen is finally pretty good overall.
