Cal Poly SLO Series--3 Game SWEEP!

Sunday - us on the mound

Starter - Howard: we'll see if he can throw 5-6 good innings.
Relievers: Grubbs, Ace Whitehead, Lummus
If it's tight, then maybe Boehm again
If it's a blow out, then Freshmen like Hamilton, Selvig, Zaharias, or Soph. Cade O'Hara (save Tumis for the weekday game)

We might actually save Ace Whitehead to START the weekday game...?

Or Grubbs for the weekday starter this week...? Grubbs is a sinker/slider ground ball pitcher who, in theory, can go a lot of innings. The Coaches really like him. He could develop into a Tristan Stevens, Jr.--not quite as much velocity as Tristan at this point in time. He's a rather intense and excitable player.

Selvig is another guy that may get a look as a weekday starter.

What this team really needs now is a week-long road trip to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks, and some teams we couldn't possibly lose to like Citadel, and College of Charleston. Maybe add in Clemson too this time.

Howard has thrown five scoreless but not much in the way of run support as it’s just 1-0 Texas in bottom of the fifth.

Grubbs on in the top of sixth with lead off man on first base. Good outing for Howard he deserved more run support.

Runner thrown out at home to preserve the 1-0 lead, great relay to Flores who guns him out at home.

Boehm in to pitch the seventh. He gives up two out single but then gets a K to end threat. Stretch time and it’s 2-0 Texas.

Horns leave bases loaded in bottom of the seventh but it’s 5-0 Texas headed to the 8th. All five Horn runs today have come from the long ball.

Three up three down for Tumis and Texas still leads 5-0 as head to bottom of the 8th. Powell who is 4-4 and has two jacks already today will be up to bat second.

Thomas with lead off double and takes third on wild pitch. Powell with SAC Fly brings him home and Texas leads 6-0.:hookem:

Actually, Thomas score on passed ball, I stepped away saw that Powell flew out and run scored and made wrong assumption.

Belyeu flies out to end inning. Headed to ninth where Horns will try to finish a stellar pitching weekend by getting a third straight shutout.

Tumis gives up lead off walk but then gets three pitch K, a ground out and the another K to complete the 27 inning weekend shutout for the Texas staff and finish the 7-0 win today.

Great series for the Horns. Three shut outs in a row is hard to top. Can someone provide me the status of Tanner Witt? Is he hurt again, he's only pitched in one game for an inning.

Brown and O'Dowd continue to stink up the batting order and then Gasparino went ofer today as well. Only drawing 2 walks between them and they are in the middle of the order.

Appreciate the updates FWHorn, i was out on the motorcycle enjoying the day but i did listen to a good part of it.

Someone posted on X that this is only the third time that Texas has held an opponent to zero runs for the entire weekend. Pitching did it's job this weekend. A significant step up in competition next weekend though.

Casey Borba had a great day at the plate. We have several kids that could be put in the lineup and improve our run totals between Schuessler, Borba and Cummings. Kennedy and J Duplantier will battle at the plate and apply pressure to a defense.

A little about Belyeu....

Belyeu had another big hit, he also made one of those throws from RF to 3rd when a runner tried to stretch a single to RF and go 1st to 3rd ...BOOOOOOM!!! Not so fast my friend!!! I haven't got to see it yet, recording the game tonight and watch it tomorrow but i think my favorite play in the world is the outfield throw out to any base especially to home but RF to 3rd is a hell of a play. It takes a hell of an arm and accuracy to make that play and why SD never tested that arm last weekend. Folks, you won't see that play made very often, that's a special gift. Other teams know he's dangerous and it could very well be the difference in a close game where the opposing team chooses NOT to test that arm and instead they get stranded at 2nd or 3rd, those things don't show up in the box score. His arm could save us 1-4 runs a game depending on opportunities to prevent the runner from advancing, that's huge!!! Belyeu keeps his batting avg up he will be my favorite player on the team. Some folks probably remember me pointing out his liability on offense before this series started, looks like he improved over this series going from a batting avg. of .000 to .214, still needs to improve but at least not a complete liability at the plate.

Wow!

And we thought Campbell had a great arm in Right Field!
