Texas vs Gonzaga 3/29/24 Sweet Sixteen

That’s why I listen to the Texas Radio Broadcast…Craig Way is the best…when the game starts, I delay about 4-6 seconds so the TV is synched with the radio…MUCH BETTER….(TV sound off…)
Where do I find Texas Radio Broadcast? I, too, prefer Craig.

Wow at Gonzaga’s press conference their players refused to give credit to Texas one bit and kept saying they took themselves out of the game. Their coach basically did the same only a little more subtly. Watch it and contrast it with Currie and Alabama’s PC.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like that and I sure don’t have any respect for how they handled it.
So when Vic says they don’t get respect and have an edge, this is exhibit A
That makes VICTORY over programs like them that much sweeter!!

I just listened to the Gonzaga press conference. I know it is hard for players to answer questions after a disappointing loss. But congratulating the other team should be included in all coaches' opening statements. Coach Fortier was basically forced to acknowledge that Texas might have a good defense and that Shaylee might be a pretty good player by reporters' questions. And if the Gonzaga players "took themselves out of the game" why didn't they just put themselves right back in it? We all know why--they were facing a smothering defense like they hadn't seen all year.

Great win Horn Fans.

No excuses. You sped the Zags up to the point that they could not even hit the few wide-open shots they did have. Ole Miss did the same thing last year to the Zags in the first round and the result was eerily similar.

Like I said in the earlier post, for the Zags to have a chance to win they had to score more than 70 points. Vic and your team ensured that did not happen, hence to chance to win for the Zags tonight.

Don't take the press conference too hard, the Zag team and coaching staff knew they were out-classed tonight. The Zags are a bunch of 3*s that have gotten through were they are by hard work, 5 years of development and great teamwork. Sometimes, all of that is not good enough, when a much taller, more athletic team comes into town. They needed a game like they played against Stanford or Utah to win, and your defense made sure that did not happen. I think the entire team is suitably embarrassed by their performance tonight and that was reflected in their press conference tonight.

Good luck Horns, in the rest of the tournament.

ZagDad

I'm not one who worries a lot about what was said in a press conference, unless the disrespect is blatant and palpable. See Nebraska's VB team after the national title beatdown we put on them for an example. All your coach and players did was focus on the things they perceived to be their own failures. I cannot speak for the whole community but I have no quarrel with that, though I do think a nod to the victor is always a gracious gesture.

The Zags are a scrappy team who represent their school and conference well. You are a good ambassador for your team too. Thanks for sharing your insights with us. Also, I DO think I can speak for the whole HornFans community when I say how saddened we are to see the injury that happened in garbage time. I thought it was her knee at first. Glad to see it was "only" an ankle, and on behalf of us all, I hope she recovers fully and quickly.

I guess the Gonzaga coach felt humiliated and embarrassed, which resulted in the poor sportsmanship she showed.. No, Coach, your team did not take themselves out of it, the Texas defense did. To anyone who was watching, it was obvious what the Zag's problem was. Funny, logically it seems like it would be better to blame your team's performance on someone else, not on your own failings. The players take their cues on what to say from their coach. It is the coach who was the poor sport.

It's ridiculous. They got stomped. Lack of sportsmanship seems to be a problem these days. Arrogance is glorified as "your truth." I don't know what culture introduced this into the arena but somebody needs to walk it out.

Even the camera work was the pits. Little to no replays and camera change ups. And the sound was also crazy. I could barely hear the refs whistles but I could hear Vic yelling at Amo like he was in my living room. And the whole time the announcers might as well have been talking about the weather for all they were worth. And normally I like both of them. It was very odd and very frustrating.
And the area - even the floor itself - appeared to be dim, especially when compared to the men’s games occurring simultaneously.

Did I miss some part of the Zags presser that has everybody around here all butthurt?

If so, please link it for me.

Just watched their presser. Norhing derogatory, It's just like after our vollyball team won the championship and posters seemed more concerned that Nebraska's coach wasn't effusive enough about us.
Who cares, we won move along.

Not acknowledging another team's effort against you means you don't understand how their effort affected you. That lack of understanding is exactly why the scoreboard was not in your favor.

One thing I haven't seen pointed out is that not only was this Gonzaga's lowest point total of the season, the previous low was 66. That's 19 fing points less than the previous low. Maybe they had a bad shooting day, but I think the way Texas swarmed them made them hurry their shots even when they were open causing a lot of the bad shooting. Helluva job Texas.

They were probably upset at the presser because these small schools have it their mind Texas is over-rated and they can win with brainpower and hustle. Well, that may work with coaches like Aston, Smart, Herman and Strong, but certainly we know that ain't happenin' with Vic. He'll dare you to think that way only to end up paying the price.

The one really frustrating thing though is all the just dumb turnovers. Would like to see that fixed. NCSt will be a different type of game. They can match Texas with athletic talent and can certainly shoot. I've watched them through the season and they are very good. I thought they were better than their seed when the playoffs started. Will be a good, tough game. Hopefully the Shay's can stay hot. But at this point to me Texas is playing with house $ so I won't be too upset with a L.

("Arrogance is glorified as your truth")If you want to know where it started all you gotta do go back 7 or 8 years back and check social media for the "loudest" voice at the time..

I couldn't have expressed my exact thoughts on every topic you touched any better.

And they referred to Amo as Madison Booker, going into one of the commercial breaks, and referred to Shaylee as coming from DePaul. We all make mistakes but these gaffes factored into the “off-ness” of the broadcast.

I hope Madi doesn't get too down on herself. She is such a driven person.
I know Vic and her team will be there to remind her it was only one game compared to the season where she was the key to wins

If all you guys have to complain about is the losing team not acknowledging your superiority, things are really pretty good in Longhorn land. Consider yourself lucky.
Just make sure you hold your team accountable to the same standard.

Really, in the case of Gonzaga, this is the last game, all of the 5 starters will ever play together. I really think, Texas (or any other opponent that would have ended their season) was the last thing on their minds during the press conference.

For those that mentioned coaching issues at Gonzaga, I (not most GU fans) agree that many of the Zags issues in tournament play (both conference and NCAA) are coaching related. Gonzaga has a fabulous record in WCC play winning the conference about 80% of the time, but the win the conference tournament only 50% (or less of the time) and her record in the NCAA tournament is not great. IMO Fortier is stubborn, rarely changes her starting line-up, has been slow to make in-game changes and quite frankly can be offensively challenged.

Run Pincher, get over yourself.

"these small schools have it their mind Texas is over-rated and they can win with brainpower and hustle."

I can assure you that outside of Texas, Texas athletics is never even thought about until you are the next game. Jeez, you sound like the UK, UNC or Kansas member boards (or the BYU fans in person), that your athletic programs are some sort of a gift from on high. Gonzaga was lucky enough to be the first team outside of the P5 conferences and UConn to host the first two rounds of the tournament since the change in tournament format. Where Texas was ranked meant absolutely nothing the Gonzaga or the Zag fans. Disparaging the losing team simply makes you look smaller and less significant.

Your team played a great game yesterday, congratulations. Gonzaga did not play even close to their capability, some or most of which was due to the Texas defense. Wish we could have provided a better game.

Let's hope we get a chance at some time in the future to redeem ourselves.

It’s bad enough we have to deal with a horn fan from the Washington area, now we have to deal with a Gonzaga fan too? :whiteflag:

“Hold your team to the same standard” Zag Dad? Watch the presser friend… first words out of our coach’s mouth this game and every game is to compliment the opponent’s effort win or lose. And our players frequently compliment the play of opponents.

You accuse us of being full of ourselves and yet here you are on our fan board when you could have been anywhere else.

Ya team got spanked. Ya team crapped their pants. It happens. Tomorrow it could be us. Move on.

And for the record, we sincerely hope Hollingsworth is ok.
