Sam Houston State Game

Howard is on the mound for us…………………………..

This is frustrating, if you're in college, i can accept a bad game, i can't accept walks after walks after walks almost every outing.
 
and Howard may not have done this every outing but this year it feels like this is common from alot of the pitching staff.
 
Howard may not recover this year from that outing, his body language looked like he had no clue how to throw a strike.
 
Hudson Hamilton has clearly not "arrived" yet, but he is a very good talent whom we should diligently work on developing. His freakishly high spin rates put him in the top quarter of MLB pitchers (for spin rates). Result--some really nasty swing and miss breaking stuff. Get his control and consistency down, and he could become one of our main men on the mound.

Fastball in the low-to-mid 90s that moves, with a 2600 RPM spin rate (that's on a fastball folks...)! Tricky guy with good control who will throw a cutter, and a wicked slider with a "hellacious bite" in the low 80s with a 2700+ RPM spin rate (significantly higher than the average MLB slider spin rate). Gets plenty of strike outs. Also has a change up and a curveball.

With those numbers, he can dye his long hair chartruse for all I care...

The pros may show some interest. Sounds like what we need. Hope he comes to the 40 and sticks around to graduation.

16-9 us to the Bottom of the 8th.

And Captain Jack O'Dowd will bat. Haven't seen him in a while.

I'm in favor of playing him some again. This is the time of year that he turns into a different man at the plate. .

The link immediately below has the Perfect Game write up where they verified Hudson Hamilton's freakish spin rates.

The announcer was talking about looking it up because he thought Hudson's spin rates must be really high.

Schuessler does it again but for the life of me don't know why Pierce keeps him out of the line up so often. Schuessler should be in the top 5 of the lineup every. single. game.
 
If Pierce's plan was to let Cody Howard finally find the strike zone and work himself out of a jam, the plan failed miserably. Not exactly confidence-building
 
Tumis - the other freakish spin rate saucy-stuff-throwin' Freshman pitcher. At times he'll throw some pitches that seem to defy the laws of physics. Old guys--remember when you first saw Fernando Valenzuela pitch during his first couple of MLB years and wondered: "how does he make the ball do that?"

IMHO (and as a fan, not a former high-level baseball player or coach), Tumis has the best "stuff" on the team, followed by Hudson Hamilton. These are two to develop into stars.

Tumis could also stand to spend some more time at the dining table.
