I sure do miss her, but Celeste Taylor had a good game for Duke today getting 13 pts and 5 rebounds which matches her season average for the Blue Devils.

Loved watching her play she was my favorite from the get go. Glad Duke is having some success this year for her sake. I’m still bummed I thought she was such a good fit for Vic’s system

I've had this totally unfounded fantasy that once Celeste is done with her senior year she'll come back to Texas for her bonus COVID year as a grad student. But sadly, that's just a fantasy. Her team is 16-1, and she's leading the team in minutes played.

Her stats for her career:

Just an FYI, a new season of Game Plan With Vic Schaefer is scheduled for 7 pm tonight (Tuesday) on LHN. Set those DVRs.
Let’s hope he’s in a better mood than last week. Oof - he looked like he would rather have been getting a root canal than doing the show just 2 days after the okie lite loss.

From ESPN, according to sources:

“2021 WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones is being traded from the Connecticut Sun to the New York Liberty in a deal that's expected to be finalized Sunday night, sources told ESPN, confirming multiple reports.

Jones, a four-time All-Star, requested the trade specifically to New York; she had one more year on her contract with the Sun, who recently brought in a new head coach in Stephanie White.”

It reads to me like they are trying to imply that Jones wanted out because she didn't want to play for the new coach, without actually saying it.

Sounded that way to me as well. I’m sure the Liberty is hoping to get Breanna Stewart there as well.
As a Wings fan, I sure hated to see Kala Thornton go. Also I liked the new Wings HC when she announced Texas game in Stillwater. They usually have some real homers announcing but she clearly did her homework on Texas and came off unbiased imo

I watched it, and it was a really good show. I like the way Vic talked about his players individually. The highlight for me was having Sonya Morris come on and speak of how hard Vic pushes them out of their comfort zone, and her saying how very up front and candid he was during the recruiting process in letting her and her parents know that he is a very demanding coach who requires a lot of hard physical conditioning. I have no more doubts about Sonya... she's bought in. It's just a matter of time before it ALL comes together for her, and no time like the present with TTU, BU, and OU coming up.

Vic recently said Sonya reminds him most of Tierra McCowen because she immediately wants to know why she was taken out of a game and when she’s going back in and he admires that about her.

I don’t know if anyone else noticed it during the Eyes after the ISU game, but Vic and Sonya stood together. He put his arm around her shoulders and gave her a little side hug and said something and I’m not an expert lip reader, but there are some unmistakable phrases and I’m sure she looked up at him and smiled and said I love you.
There’s a ton of mutual respect between those two

Good for Kamie…

Jody coached some USA basketball back in the '80s, and Gail in 2008 I believe. I've never understood the otherwise lack of involvement by UTWBB coaching staffs. It has certainly helped Dawn, Geno, and others establish some serious inroads to recruiting.

Krystle is a player that recent fans may not know but a member of the 2013-2014/2014-2015 squads does have a connection to the current coaching staff: she was Elena Lovato's starting PG at Trinity Valley Community College when she won her first JUCO national title. Henderson transferred to Texas from Trinity and averaged 16 minutes per game over 2 seasons. After leaving Texas, she became an EMT, finished medical school and has now been matched into the general surgery program at Dell Medical School.

THIS is why I love supporting UT sports, and particularly on the women's side.

Been wondering what was taking them so long.

Thanks for sharing brnkj. You're right.

Charli should have remained at Texas another season to develop under Coach Vic. We all saw how she dominated smaller post players, but struggled mightily against physical post players her size.

It's ironic that the article mentions the wings might pick up Charli later in the season because of Tierra McCowan's commitment overseas. It was Vic who recruited and developed Tierra at Mississippi State.

And she went pro purely for the sake of being the #1 player. I don't know how these ladies don't see the very low "stick to" rate of the WNBA.

IMO, she made the right decision by turning pro. Her staying another year would have certainly benefited Texas, but I just don't see how playing another year of college helps as opposed to having the ability to to work on her game year round being a professional.

I'll do you one better... She should have been finishing up her extra covid year this past season. She made a very short-sighted and selfish decision to leave college early. It was absolutely all about her being able to say she was the number one pick.

I do believe Stanford doesn't beat us in the Elite 8 last year had she stayed. Charli had a lot of talent, but she wasn't anywhere near ready for the next level... I don't care what anybody says or what draft pick number she was. Had she stayed the extra years, she would have been fully developed and a far better player by now. Oh well...

Have to disagree. Charli still wouldn't be in the WNBA today even if she stayed for her entire eligibility. How was she going to "develop" playing against college players as opposed to playing against pro's, even the ones not in the the league playing overseas? Also having to go to class and everything that comes with being a college player instead being able to spend 100% of her time focused on basketball as a pro.

Hindsight is 20/20 and she had no way of knowing about how the NIL would turn out, but her 5th Covid year she'd have been able to make NIL money too. I think we forget about how much hype there was around Charli while she was in college. I think she could have made some serious bank last year.

Remind me how often Dallas actually let her play?
I think she started like 18 games or so her rookie season. I’m a Wings fan and watch most of their games and unfortunately I was never upset to see her taken out of those games. She started but never logged many minutes.

I was hoping she’d come into her own playing overseas (she had great stats), but so far, it has not translated to the WNBA.

She got her real estate license here in Dallas but I forget which broker she is with.

Sug came off the bench yesterday for Phoenix and played 30 min, went 5-9 scoring 13 points (3rd leading scorer on the team behind Griner and Taurasi), had two steals, 2 assists and 2 turnovers. She played stellar defense and is probably why she played most of the second half. It was really nice to see her skills shine.
