2024 Texas Rangers

Well, only viewd small parts of Rangers vs Astros.

Missed D plays.

Not enough bats at key times.

Another loss... 6-3.

The Rangers dropped the opener in Houston. Heaney continues to be a hard luck starter going five innings and only giving up two runs but takes the loss when the bullpen blows up in the sixth. The Rangers are in almost must win mode today and tomorrow or they likely go into the All-Star break in seller mode mindset as we approach that deadline shortly after the All-Star game. Texas has too many pitchers on expiring contracts and too much uncertainty with television money to go into the off-season with that many free agents on its pitching staff.

Rangers gut out a 2-1 win in ten innings today. No offense all game after literally the first pitch of the game home run by Semien but the pitching and defense hung tough and the Rangers steal one. Rubber game tomorrow is just huge as Texas looks to take 2 of 3 in this series, even the season series with Houston at 5 each and get back to just four games under .500 headed into the All Star Break.

A win is a win. Need to win on Sunday to win the series on a good note.

A W in Houston today would be huge for the Rangers. And as Seattle continues to struggle, it begins to appear that - once again - the Astros and the Rangers would duke it out for the AL West. And the Rangers are continuing to get healthier - if only the bats would wake up and produce consistently.

The Rangers left the bases loaded three times yesterday with no runs scored. That has become a season-long issue. The irony of this season is that the rotation and bullpen have been the strength of the team, it is the offense that has been dragging this team down. I know last year was a career year for several players and there was always going to be some regression to their mean, but it seems as though it's not just a regression to the mean but a slump far past what an ordinary regression would have been. Adolis has essentially become a feast-or-famine Joey Gallo type and Nathaniel Lowe/Leody Taveras and even Marcus Semien (with the exception of the last week) are way underperforming at the plate. The other issue is the errors (42 errors through 95 games after 57 all of last season). Plus they seem to come at the worst possible times.

All that being the case, I said go 4-2 on the last road trip before the break and we can keep hope alive, so win today and do that, please!

The Rangers take the rubber match 4-2 and win the series in Houston to head into the All-Star break four games under .500. Texas is 7-2 in its last 9 and with 66 games left is not dead yet in a wide open AL West. All Str Game is Tuesday in Arlington and home run derby is tomorrow night.

half way there, and it looks like this

If you look at the early Wild Card standings, it appears right now that the Rangers will need to win the AL West. Seattle is scuffling a bit, and it appears that the Rangers and the Astros will fight it out for the West. The Rangers kept hopes alive by winning two of three in Houston this past weekend. Only three head-to-head games ledt against the Astros (in Arlington), so the Rangers need to find a way to play .600 baseball over the second half and win at least two of three from the Astros head-to-head. Pitching has been good - still need to wake up the offense.

I agree that the WC is unlikely and unfortunately to win AL West it will take more than .600 baseball. With 66 games left .600 baseball gets you to 86 wins and I don't see that winning the AL West. The winning percentage number needed is at least .633 baseball which would get you 88 wins and Texas might need to be .666 to get to 90 wins. That is 44-22 over the last 66 games.

Good post and spot on about the batting.

Sure would help if Jung could get back soon and be productive. I worry with the broken wrist, the long healing time, rehab, etc. will have taken a toll on his timing an mojo. Suspect he will have some rust to shake off.

Perhaps he will be back in the lineup some next week after the break... we will see.

Jung's replacement is leading the team in batting average - what are you going to do with Smith?

Rangers Day Three 2024 MLB Draft

Much harder to grade drafts in baseball, ESPN considers the best-value pick by Texas to be Devin Fitz-Gerald a third baseman taken at 165, and the sleeper to watch pick to be David Hagaman, the pitcher Texas got at 133. There isn't a big name like the past couple of years (Leiter, Rocker, Langford) but overall CY went for a stable class that should help restock the Ranger pipeline and hopefully will result in a couple of players that can ultimately help the big club.

There isn't a big name like the past couple of years
That's a byproduct of winning the World Series - you get to pick last in the next MLB draft. The few really big names are long gone by that time. BUT - I'd love to see the Rangers pick last every year!

The Rangers start their last 66 games with a seven-game homestand against Baltimore and the White Sox. This is a great opportunity to take 6 out of 7 by winning the series against the Orioles and sweeping the woefully bad White Sox. The minimum must be 5 out of 7 to feel like the Rangers are still viable because anything less and the Rangers probably should start looking to trade for some value the expiring contracts of Heaney, Lorenzen, Robertson, and Yates late next week.

I am not sure they can get equal short or long-term value for Yates. If anything has shown this season it is hard to build a consistent BP. Make him a competitive offer and if he turns it down, ok, but don't use him as trade bait.

Picking last in a league's 1st round draft is the best problem to have!

Rangers lose 9-1 to start the stretch run and get a grand total of two hits. It was always going to be the toughest of the three with the Orioles against Corbin Burns but it was essentially over after the top of the first. It’s all about winning four out of every six. Houston won last night to tie Seattle in the standings. The Astros made up ten games in a month so it can be done but it’s now or never for Texas with the trade deadline looming and a bunch of expiring contracts to perhaps unload.

The Rangers got beat up again last night 8-4 as Scherzer got knocked around for 4 runs in the second and pulled after just those two innings of work. 0-2 out of the gate after the break with losses by both Eovaldi and Scherzer is not how Texas makes itself relevant again. I know I keep saying it, but with the trade deadline looming each one of these losses makes unloading expiring contracts that much more likely and absent some kind of run in these next few days, and incidentally a run that is more than just a dead cat bounce by winning a series against the worst team in the MLB, the White Sox, I see CY moving 4-5 players in the very near future as the Rangers reset for 2025.

Today the Rangers have a 3-2 lead with the O's at bat in top of eight. This is a critical game for the Rangers. They need to win one game against the O's. The White Sox are in for four games - a good opportunity for the Rangers to sweep the worst team in MLB. That would make it a 5-2 homestand before heading out to Toronto. Winning the series in Toronto would make it a 7-3 start to the second half of the season - just encouraging enough to hold out hope for the playoffs, Otherwise, they may go into the sell mode - especially for guys with expiring contracts.

Rangers do win 3-2. Absolutely must sweep the putrid White Sox this week and as Viper noted above take advantage of a couple of soft series that are up next in the schedule.

Nice W today. Just enough offense, thanks to Jonah Heim. If the Rangers really want to make a run, they must get the bats working. And the upcoming series with the White Sox will be an ideal opportunity to do that. The pitching has done a pretty decent job so far this season - especially considering the number of walking wounded starters.

Rangers' offense decided not to show up tonight until the very end and it's just enough for a ten-inning 4-3 win on a Wyatt Langford walk-off single. Just six hits and only 4 runs against a team that routinely is giving up 7 plus runs. It's a win, but as frustrating a win as you can have. 3 more with the ChiSox the next three days and hopefully someone wakes the bats up from their season long freaking slumber.

WHOA THAT 4-3 10 INNING WALK OFF WIN WAS FUN!!!

LANGFORD was the hero tonight.

Rangers have not done that in a long while. Crowd was ROCKIN!!

Down 3-2 bottom of the 9th and rallied back!!!

It's a win, but as frustrating a win as you can have.
Totally agree, FWHORN. That was definitely a frustrating win - anemic offense until the ninth and tenth innings. The Chisox are the worst team in the majors - the Rangers should be scoring at least 8 runs against them every game. And the Rangers must sweep this series if they want to have any chance at the playoffs.
