2022 Softball Season

The twitter account also said that the game on Sunday will be shown live on LHN
Hunh. The reason I say Hunh is because I was at today's game and there are no cameras anywhere. These are the heavy cameras they put on the end of the left and right part of the stadium as well as the camera on the ledge underneath the scoreboard.

Of course, they could put them there overnight. And I saw a woman coming out of the broadcast trailer they have semi-permanent anchored in the street behind the screen.

Would be nice to record since I have to watch volleyball at Kansas at the same time.

Can someone there please tell me the starting lineup
It was a mixed grab bag of starters and non-starters. As I was walking up the ramp, the announcer called out their names, but I forgot.

And then announcer quit announcing anyone. No names for those at bat. No names when either team changed pitchers.

Twice the umps had to signal to the booth to CUT THE MUSIC so that the portion of the inning could start. Once they started playing music in the middle of an at-bat and the ump had to call time. Someone wasn't doing their job.

Mary, JJ, and Courtney in street clothes. JJ was in walking boot on right foot (from the awkward stop at 3rd base in the last game)

Game recording available tomorrow

And for those who can watch it on LHN, the jerseys don't match texassports. But here's a guide (I hope I got it right):
10 = Katie Cimusz
14 = Mia Scott
21 = Sophia Simpson
22 = Estelle Czech
23 = Vanessa Quiroga
34 = Logan Hulon

Well the only way to follow the atm game was to follow the running narrative from Texas Softball on Twitter. Shea closed out the last inning for the win.

Parker was the absolute stud from the fall. And while I think she should be riding high and happy with her performances, we have to remember the competition.

(But then again, everyone faced that competition on the team, but she showed some special moments.)

The double header we have this Saturday against Temple college and UTSA could be interesting! I’m not sure what the format will be. It’s 2-1/2 hours allotted for each game. Not sure they can get 10 innings in for each game. Everyone healthy should see some playing time though. And it’s being broadcast on LHN! And the football team is off this weekend so no conflicts!! I’ll be watching this one!

These girls are ready to play some ball! I really look forward to seeing Sophia Simpson play this Saturday. I don't think she pitched again atm. With Dolcini coming in she will get a good year of work without too much pressure to win every time she starts. I expect to see her more in a relief roll.

I just noticed there are TWO 2022 season threads posted???? Why the heck would anyone start another one???

No one has commented on our fall ball games today so my comments! I just finished watching the Temple JC game on demand and Mia Scott is a monster! Texas won 13-0 and I believe Temple had 2 hits. Mia and Bree Cantu both needed triples to hit for the cycle. Katie Cimusz hit a grand slam! Logan Hulon pitched the first four inning and I believe only allowed 1 hit. Estelle Czech really impressed me! I guess I was expecting her to be dominant and she didn’t disappoint! She’s has pin point placement and a lot of movement and control. She is going to be fun to watch this upcoming season!

I attended the Temple game today. When the commentators, obviously watching and commenting remotely said they heard a hard hit coming from Mia Scott, I agree. I was on the front row behind home plate and when she hit it, it wasn't a "ping", it was deep "thump". And then, I saw it flying out fast. The first thought was that it was too low to clear the wall. And then when you see how fast it's going from behind the ball you understand how it was a HR.

JJ Smith at first? Mmmm, not a natural position. I would say that her handling of ground balls isn't the best as two balls popped out of her glove as she was handling them. Figures since she isn't used to handling a ball shooting down the turf for so long.

And Cantu! Wow, she's really improved her hitting in the off season.

Jenae had one of her brain farts where she didn't correctly cover first when JJ jumped in front of her trying to grab the grounder near first.

Hulon can be a good pitcher, but she takes time to warm up and comfortable with the strike zone. If she's going to be used as a closer, that might be a problem.

Czech is more ready to pitch. She's more intently focused in her face when a pitch doesn't go her way, she's onto the next pitch.

With these freshmen, I'm not sure that Pop or Corona are going to get as much playing time as they did last year. Of course, the competition wasn't the best and they might hit a freshman wall when the season starts in February.

Surprised to learn from the commentators that Sophia's best friend (before joining the Longhorns) is Mia Scott.

Watched both games and I'm impressed with the depth. It is going to be a competition for playing time and that's what you want.

Mia Scott is coming in as ready as Jefferson was as a Freshman but with more pop.

Quiroga is the biggest surprise to me. Really impressed with her approach and swing.

Cimusz has a lot of power but seems to have a lot of pop outs.

I totally agree that Quiroga has one of the sweetest looking swings. But I also thought that JJ Smith had a beautiful swing her freshman year but she doesn’t look so good now. Sophia Simpson looked strong in her outing but she got out of sorts in the 3rd with a couple of walks, hits and a run. Then Coach White came out and talked to her and she got back in control. It will interesting to see the battle for the third pitching spot. Either Czech or Simpson?
February can’t get here soon enough!

Smith has a good swing just pulls off the ball to much and thats when she struggles. Simpson and Czech both look good, think it will be nice being able to give some many different looks in one game to the complete teams.

BTW, when Scott a double, it was amazing how fast she rounded 1st and got to second. I mean...she was Jefferson-fast, or faster.

However, Popelka is still the fastest to first from the plate. I know every time she taps out a bunt, goes flying to first and beats out the throw, EVERYONE in the stadium is thinking politically incorrect thoughts. But using their inside voice.

Ya Scott looks like she could be faster than Popelka. She has the sprinter build too, which is going to lead to homers too. Real excited about her.

Argh. The rich get richer. I guess that's what others think when it comes to some of our Texas sports (like volleyball).

Gonna have to drop CDC a note. There was a podcast a few months ago that talked about UT's move into the SEC and how our facilities would/will be considered the bottom tier of the conference.

I swear I've been reading about this proposed new facility for OU longer than it's gonna take them to actually build the dang thing.

No surprise OU is sponsored by a truck stop chain.
