To me, the GOP will look like children going tit-for-tat if we try to impeach Biden. the attempt to impeach trump was entirely political theater and it is tempting to play the same way but right now the GOP is winning without doing over-the-top stuff like this. we can take the high road and just let elections do what they are designed to do. If we look at 2022 strategically for the party and try to get a few conservative POCs or women elected in competitive moderate districts then we could blunt the dems efforts in 2024 to run on Race and Gender platforms. Liberals and liberal policies have recently been shown to be failures and people are seeing that. You'll never get that last 40% of lefties to acknowledge it but the rest of the country is seeing it and increasingly voting it that way.

Agree. In the first place, I think the voters would recognize an attempt at impeachment as "revenge" - and it would have some backlash. Second, there is zero chance, even if the House were to impeach, that the Senate would get the 2/3 needed to remove him from office. Third, even if he were removed from office, would we really want to turn the keys over to Kamala?
Better plan - assuming the GOP wins the House and the Senate in the mid-term election - is to advance some GOP policies. Pass some GOP-favorable bills and send them on to Biden for the certain veto. Then we've labeled him as "Dr. No" if he decides to run in 2024 - and if he opts out for 2024, so much the better.

I would say every President has done something impeachable. Whether the Congress chooses to impeach or not is a question of political strategy.

As many of you have said, I think impeaching Biden doesn't solve the country's problems alone and could distract from more important things. But he has grossly violated the Constitution or has attempted to. He doesn't have to violate the Constitution in a unique way for him to be unfit to continue in office.

In Deezestan (the hypothetical nation in which I would be benevolent dictator), refusing to enforce the border would be an impeachable offense. The President's job is to enforce the laws, and he's refusing to do so in violation of his oath of office. Monahorn's basic contention is pretty much correct. I would oppose impeachment largely for practical and political reasons.

I'd also add in precedential reasons. We've generally tolerated presidents not enforcing the border - Bush, Obama, Clinton, etc. Doesn't seem fair to suddenly change that precedent and throw the book at Biden.

Perlmutter sorta got screwed in redistricting. It's split between a much bigger D+6 district (numbered as his current district - 7th) and the new R+3 district (numbered as the new 8th district). Here's the ***** of it though. The 8th district has a big Hispanic population. It's R+3, but that's based on the 2020 election with Hispanics favoring Democrats. That's going to be far less true in '22. If he runs in that seat, he's going to lose.

He could try in the 7th district, but that district is much bigger than his old one. It has the same population core, but it includes more rural areas than before. At D+6, it's certainly winnable, but it's not going to be a foregone conclusion. A lot of it will have to do with whether the GOP nominates a Lauren Boebert starter-kit (who would take the seat off the table for the GOP) or someone with suburban appeal (which would make the seat competitive). Furthermore, with a significant expansion, a more moderate rural or exurban Democrat could primary him. Though it's less Hispanic than the 8th district, there are enough to be problematic if they were previously relied on to make the district lean D. In short, he could still win it, but it would be a pain in the *** that he may not want to deal with.

I think Hogan could make it close, but I don't see it happening. I suspect that with his health issues, he wouldn't want to jump into what would be a brutally tough race that he would make competitive but likely still lose.

Yep. As toxic as Trump was with suburban women, it was and is possible for Democrats to screw it up with them. I honestly don't think the initial school closings are what's hurting them. I think very few would punish them for closing schools at the very beginning before things were really understood.

What's hurting them is the blatant, over-the-top whoring for the teachers unions in keeping them closed for so long coupled with the self-righteousness of attacking anyone who called it into question and saying they don't care about teachers and children. It was a stupid move, because if you make it a moral issue, it becomes extremely hard to compromise, set a reasonable standard for reopening, or frankly change course in any way. If you reopen when there's even a trace of Covid in the area, you look like a morally-depraved sellout. And you have to admit that you were a dishonest ******* when you were saying Greg Abbott and Ron Desantis were pushing a "death cult."

Of course, CNN has to do some of the Democrats' dirty work by pointing out that most schools are open, and that is true. However, the areas where schools are closed are generally heavily Democratic (because the unions hold a lot of power in those areas), which makes it hard for Democrats generally to disentangle from the issue.
