2021 Softball Transfers

There are still some good pitchers in the portal and I am sure Texas will get one. With Ryleigh White leaving, we now only have O'leary, Simpson, and Day as pitchers.
 
I was wondering about the chances of a Fall transfer. I know that the NCAA mandated that all college players wanting to transfer must have entered into the database by July 1st. That is known and it covers many of the sports that start in the Fall.

Now consider softball, which has a "Fall Ball" season where a semester of practice and a handful of scrimmages occur. How has it been handled in the past before this new July 1st deadline when it comes to transfers?

What I'm wondering is if a player spends Fall semester and decides that that school isn't for them and they are looking, can they enter the portal at the conclusion of Fall season and transfer to get into the Spring and start immediately?

If we were looking for a pitcher who is now committed to a school or playing for that school, is a Spring portal transfer possible?

Two names caught my eye:
Morgan Leonard: Because she's a pitcher. Looking at her social media, a fellow pitcher from Ill State just transferred to OSU. Either that makes her more likely to go to OSU or less likely to go to OSU. Hmmm, something stinky going on at Ill State.
Ally Shipman: Even I've heard of her. Shocking she would be leaving TN. Could we use another catcher? Yes as I'd like someone other than Mary to be behind the plate. But we have incoming catchers as well as young ones already on the team.

Would we pick up a hitter to pick up a hitter? Like Brito, if we picked up a good hitter do we have a place for her play? I wish we had the "pull" that OU and OSU seem to have now with transfers.

I wanted Shipman as well especially since her and O'leary are very familiar with eachother. I believe they played on the same travel ball team but unfortunately she has decided to go to Arkansas.

Looks to be a crafty lefty similar to Molly.

I like the look of her movement on the mound! And she was a freshman at NC State. Got some years ahead of her!

I was wondering how this player's history. Google tells me that NC State had 4 players enter the portal in late May, two of them pitchers including Czech.

Coach has been described as "passionate" in both positive and negative connotations. Some fans gripe that her playing philosophy is "hit for the fences". She fired the pitching coach after the season concluded.

Near the end of the year, she suspended a group of players for 3 games including the starting pitcher, who then quit the team.

I wonder if Ryleigh White's sudden departure caused Mike to scramble and go shopping in the portal?

NC State is down to two pitchers, one of which is really a short stop that can pitch. They're also scrambling to find new pitchers.
 

If yall don't follow this account I strongly recommend you do so. Anything involving Texas sports they are very knowledgeable about and just sports in general. Not sure who they are talking about in the tweet but I don't think they are referring to the NC state pitcher so hopefully Texas picks up another transfer pitcher.
 
Well, Ariana Adams quitting the team half way through the season, plus Ryleigh White entering the transfer portal were unexpected events. And, prior to the season's start, we were already expecting to lose senior pitchers Miranda Elish and Molly Jacobsen as they'd have exhausted their eligibility at season's end. So, we've basically lost 4 of our 5 pitchers from the 2021 season; not sure any other pitcher played other than perhaps Courtney Day in very limited duty.

We have pitcher Sophia Simpson coming in, and possibly Quirroga can pitch at this level. And, returners Shea O'Leary and Courtney Day on the roster. Tough loss not to get Trautwein from North Texas. Getting Czech is a good start in that she's a lefty. Still think we could use 2 more experienced transfer pitchers.

Moooooo don’t you feel our true pitchers will expect a lot of innings to make them happy?? The example of NC State having 5 pitchers on the roster did not end well. Estelle came to NC State with a pretty lofty ranking and didn’t really get a lot of innings. I like where we are today. We have 3 what I would call stud, can’t miss pitchers. And a couple of developers as back up. White has an opportunity to distribute meaningful inning to everyone. I like how Coach White is building the team for the future.
 
I didn't want to start a thread for "offstage drama", but there's been a slew of strong rumors that Texas and OU are looking to "transfer" (get it, wink wink) into the SEC. While I'm not a big fan of SEC in general, the fact that......looking this up...they have 13 (!) teams currently fielding softball would make it much more fun.

But they also have Alabama, Florida, LSU, Auburn (sometimes great), Missouri (sometimes great), Tennessee (sometimes great) and A&M (sometimes great).

And uhhh....we'd still have the mountain we can't seem to climb...OU. But at least others would share our pain!

Anyway, I thought for sure we'd be in the PAC-12 years ago, so what do I know.

I think the tweet was based on her high school ranking instead of what she did freshman year at NC state. I did think it was going to be another big transfer but the tweet was referring to the NC state pitcher but she still is a good get. She could be a really good 3rd option if she works on her mechanics a bit.
