2021 Recruiting - Softball

Texas UIL softball playoffs
Regional Final round: Down to 8 teams in each division
Sophia Simpson - Mount Belvieu Barbers Hill 5A Region 3 District 21 winner won there Regional Semifinal game over Waller 2-0. Game scores were 2-0 & 11-1.
They now play Lake Creek winner of District 20. Lake Creek comes in with a record of 38-0. Led by Pitcher Emily Kennedy an A&M commit.

Vanessa Quiroga - Corpus Christi Carroll 5A Region 4 District 29 winner lost there Regional Semifinal game 2-0 against Leander. Leander must be as advertised as they beat a good Carroll team 11-1 & 14-1.
Katie Cimusz - Humble Atascocita 6A Region 3 District 21 lost to Brazoswood 2-1 in the Area round.
Mia Scott - Angleton lost to Mount Belvieu Barbers Hill in the Area round.
Mya Holmes - Texas City Did not make the playoffs

Since Sophia Simpson did not make the cut I was interested in looking at all the Pitchers invited to the trials.
  • Valerie Cagle, Pitcher - Freshman ace at Clemson, from Yorktown Virginia,
  • Raelin Chafflin, Pitcher - Senior, Bossier City, La., committed to LSU
  • Tatum Cloptin, Pitcher - Senior, Lawrence, KS, committed to Okie State
  • Maddie Erickson, Pitcher - Junior, Wilsonville, OR, committed to Michigan
  • Alissa Humphrey, Pitcher - Freshman ace at James Madison, from Gainesville, Fl.
  • Teagan Kaven, Pitcher - Soph (2023 class) from Des Moines, Iowa. Not committed?
  • Mac Morgan, Pitcher - Senior, Creighton, Mo., committed to Arizona State
  • Keagan Rothrock, Pitcher - Soph (2023 class) Indianapolis, In., committed to the University of Florida in the 7th grade. Softball America ranked her #1 player in the nation in the class of 2023
I'm very happy with the pitchers we have coming in but I think Texas will have to start getting some of this level pitchers in the future to be elite. It's great to have 3 fielders on the list. We probably have more than any other school in that area. Maybe Mike believes he can get by with Good but not Great pitching but have Great sticks coming to the plate! Any way you cut it I want a National Championship in the near future and consistently be in the WCWS.

Of course Savannah Geurin from Leander and ou commit did not make the list and she is supposed to be a stud. Maybe I should take this list with a grain of salt and let my blood pressure just go back to normal.

Simpson is definitely better than most on that list. I wouldn't read too much into it because Simpson is ranked #4 overall meaning she's one of the best pitchers in the country and I believe she is #2 pitcher in her class so our recruiting is definitely getting what's needed to be elite in the future

Let us know if any of our future recruits will be in playoffs at McComb, please. Obviously, have to wait a few weeks.

The state tournament is next weekend. Citlaly Gutierrez and Sophia Simpson are the only 2 remaining that have a chance to make it. I expect both Stamford and Barbers Hill to advance.

Barbers hill advanced to state winning game two 6 to 5 in extras.

Game one Simpson pitched 6+ innings with 13 strikeouts and 3 hits.

Barbers Hill won there state semi-final game over Hallsville 6-0. Our Sophia Simpson did not pitch today’s game. Louisiana commit Samantha Landry pitched a one hitter for BH. Expect Sophia to pitch the championship game tomorrow. BH has a couple of D1 pitchers on there high school team. Pretty amazing.

This girl is sorely needed at Texas. She is going to be a stud! I listened to the game on Texan live and she got 14 k’s and Aledo only had 4 hits. She shut them down when she needed to. We have some good looking freshman coming in!

Two pitchers winning state championships is move in the right direction of recruiting. Sophia Simpson is a competitor I love it.

Also former longhorn player Kaitlyn Slacks mom is the head coach of Liberty that also won state.

Was I reading the results right or did Barbers Hill not only go undefeated in conference but also didn’t give up a run, let alone an ER?

You read right. They easily have the best 1-2 punch with Louisiana signee Samantha Landry & Sophia Simpson. That's college level talent on the same staff so I honestly am not shocked by that stat.
