When they get it in. 14 service errors vs WVU in match one. 14 errors and 18 errors in the two matches vs Baylor. Luckily Baylor had 9 and 18 errors serving to help the cause. Way too many service errors to beat powerhouse teams like Nebraska and others who don't have issues serving."If they can fix service errors"...
The matches I have watched have featured some pretty damned good serving.
14 errors in a straight set victory is a little concerning. (~5 errors per set)When they get it in. 14 service errors vs WVU in match one. 14 errors and 18 errors in the two matches vs Baylor. Luckily Baylor had 9 and 18 errors serving to help the cause. Way too many service errors to beat powerhouse teams like Nebraska and others who don't have issues serving.
If a given team has 3 to 5 more service errors per set than the opponent, you're almost certainly right, but no team has a perfect serve percentage.I don't think any team can win a NC giving up 3+ free points/set.
A little better, but I think the biggest difference has been Morgan. She's the only one on the team with more SA's than SE's, the other players are about the same as last year. But replace Micaya with Morgan and it makes a big difference. Morgan actually has a higher SA/set ratio than Micaya had last year and she's second on the team this year just behind Logan. And obviously she doesn't have a rocket jump serve.
As I always keep saying, but the coaches and players can't seem to hear me, you don't have to have a killer jump serve to be effective. Nalani is the perfect example of this. During the (I think KSU match) she started off with her jump serve and tried to hit it into the 9th row of seating. The next time she did a normal serve and it was an ace.
I think we saw the same thing last year. Teams had more trouble with Sydney's floater than Micaya's jump serve, hence the SA/set ratio being so low. And the SE's are absolutely a momentum killer.
I don't think any team can win a NC giving up 3+ free points/set.
