U. of The Incarnate Word Game

Looks like we'll be going with a smaller starting lineup, while Disu and Shedrick get fully healed up. (although Mitchell is 6'9", and Cunningham can match up defensively with players several inches taller than him). Onyema (6'8" 235 lbs) should give some big-man relief off the bench, although his raw talent probably doesn't reach the levels of Disu, Shedrick, or Mitchell. Horton is a tweener at 6'5".

We may look a lot different in 2-3 weeks.

For now, it's a smallish lineup and lots of fast breaks.

It's an easy schedule until Nov. 19-20 at the big tournament in New York (Louisville, U Conn, Indiana, us).

It's good to have a few games against this sort of opponent before we head off to slay dragons.

Horton was as good as his UCF days indicated he would be.

I'd like to see Hunter get back to his ISU roots. He's working too hard to try and create shots for himself. His 1:1 assist-to-turnover ratio needs improvement.

Brockstar was his usual self.

We're gonna need Onyema and Shedrick taking up all those "big" minutes until Disu is healthy.

Shot selection was pretty healthy and we need to keep it up.

That Sky kid from UIW was the real deal and we have no one who can defend good swing players. We're going to end up with Hunter or Cunningham on those guys and we can't afford to have either get in foul trouble.

Foot injury is no bueno, especially in basketball. Everything I have read is that they are taking it slow with every precaution. I think they are playing the long game and he may not be available until conference play (that is just my opinion) at best. Hopefully, I'm wrong because we are not going to have much depth up front without him. Shedrick's shoulder didn't seem to bother him, but Incarnate Word didn't have big bodies banging him around. Hard to judge the team this early given the competition, but it looks like we have more firepower from long range and the defensive intensity seems to be there. Onyema can be a banger, but I think limited offensively against better competition. The team needs to cut down on turnovers, but several turnovers last night were from miscommunication, or one player thinking another was going to cut when they didn't, so that should get better.

Watched some of the 2nd half game, Texas has some talent for sure. Hope they gel and become a force in our last year in the big12.

Yep. Even if all Onyema does is come off the bench (or start for now...) and play good interior D, grab a bunch of rebounds, and get the occasional garbage bucket put back, he's doing his job.

As his offensive game develops with experience, he may go a lot farther than that.
