Transfer Portal OLine Targets For Next Year

Knowing that we probably aren't going to field a starting 5 of true freshmen, who should Sark and Flood be going after?

All starters were underclassmen. So they’ll be bigger, stronger, wiser from experience and strength & conditioning.
In Stark I trust to pick up one or two and add a new starter or two. Also will have some depth next year.

Kerstetter is gone and Tope too. Both started at various times due to OL injuries.

Lesson to be learned from the recent past -- Big Willie.

Don't grab some slow OL dude who's North of 350+ lbs, and very high % body fat, from the portal/transfer. We need big dudes who can move.

We may be required to refer to some of them as "guards" or "tackles" but otherwise the strategy is sound

and they run over to the ref after every play and change which position they are on the line. who knows which is eligible some plays. mayhem ensues.

Rumors and talk out there that Campbell committed to UT.and signed his LOI over the weekend and will be announcing during his all star game in Jan.
TFB and other mods believe if true that we will not be pursuing any portal linemen.
This one bears watching.

If this is true I'll blow a load. Brockerwho?

Means nothing without a TE. I’m okay using the portal for a 2-3 TE’s, probably better that way.

Kerstetter is gone
hasn't he started for 5 years?

We need WRs and LBs more. Sark needs to find a receiver coach fast so we can recruit receivers via the portal.

Sanders is hopefully a receiving TE for the future if he can block. He was the highest rated recruit in 2020.

Put those young pups in and let’s grow !

Sounds more and more like we're going to have at least two starting true freshmen on the OL next year.

If they are good enough then sure. I just worry if they can get up to speed with all the blocking schemes, especially with Bama on the schedule.

5 OL, 3 TE, QB, RB, and WR should do it.

That would be 11 players yes. Thread is more about offensive line portal transfers that could be targets so we don't have to rely on the freshmen to save the day by themselves, but salient observation nontheless.

My point is that awesome TE’s can make up for unseasoned OL if used correctly. Bijan at RB, Worthy at WR, and a good pass catching TE is all the skill we need on the field.

That's about all the TEs did this year. Line up two TEs next to each other like wingbacks. One supports the OT or runs a route, the inside TE traps because our OL couldn't do that.

Per Sporting News (Jan 11, 2022):

"Several Alabama players, including former 5-star linebacker Drew Sanders, enter transfer portal."

"The players in the transfer portal include quarterback Paul Tyson — great-grandson of Hall of Fame coach Bear Bryant — offensive lineman Tommy Brown, tight end Jahleel Billingsley, linebacker King Mwikuta and former five-star linebacker Drew Sanders."

Might at least be worth a look.

It feels like too much to ask, but man, picking up Sanders and Billingsley from Alabama, the TCU edge rusher and Mario Williams at WR would seriously put a charge into an already exciting off-season.

Williams really seems like a stretch, but the fact that he's on campus and also getting a pitch from the baseball team puts us a lot farther along than I would have expected.

Either I'm getting spoiled or greedy, but it sure seems like at least three of those guys are real possibilities.

I checked the Transfer Portal today to see how many of our guys are in the portal. So far, we picked up 4 new players from the portal. We currently have 14 players who entered the portal, but only 4 have been picked up by other teams. Ten former players are still sitting there.

As I understand it, when a player enters their name in the transfer portal it generally means they intend to explore their options, and does not necessarily mean they will leave. A player is free to withdraw his name at any time. However, schools are under no obligation to keep a player on scholarship once they enter the portal.

If any of the remaining 10 players are not picked up, will they be allowed to rejoin the team, or will they be told "thanks, but no thanks" and shown the door? I don't know what the policy is for our players who enter the portal then want to come back. Thoughts?
