Time to take down the Xmas decorations

Undecorated and disassembled the tree and managed to fit all the sections into the tree bag (it’s always a struggle to get it to fit), all prior to the conclusion of the Rose Parade. I’ll take down the interior Yule doctorations while watching the Cotton Bowl/Citrus Bowl.

Icicle lights on the house exterior will stay up and lit through 12th Night/Epiphany. Then I’ll yank ‘‘em down next weekend, or soon as weather permits.

Happy New Year to all at Hornfans!

I actually leave everything up until it becomes embarrassing, which is approximately halfway between 12th night and Mardi Gras.

Our decorations come down right after New Years Day. We only have one 10 year old kid at home, and one is a Marine Sergeant stationed in Utah, and one is a sports announcer for KRLD in Dallas. The is one other kid (or rather a grown young man) who isn't our biological child, but adopted us as his 2nd family but has shared the Holidays with us for the last 14 years and he has his own construction company.

Mrs. Deez will keep it up into March, and it'll be back up by the end of September.

Wow!! Ours go up a couple of weeks before Christmas and come down on January 2nd unless, like this year, there are football games to be watched.

A couple houses on my block still have their holiday lighting on at night. Curious to see how long they will keep them on.

In the traditional Roman Rite calendar of the Catholic Church, Christmas season ends on Candlemas, which is February 2nd in 2023. Check to see if they come down on February 3rd.

That's why I specifically noted the traditional Roman Rite calendar.

From Wiki:

In medieval era Christendom, Christmastide "lasted from the Nativity to the Purification."[29][30] To this day, the "Christian cultures in Western Europe and Latin America extend the season to forty days, ending on the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple and the Purification of Mary on 2 February, a feast also known as Candlemas because of the blessing of candles on this day, inspired by the Song of Simeon, which proclaims Jesus as 'a light for revelation to the nations'."[31] Many Churches refer to the period after the traditional Twelve Days of Christmas and up to Candlemas, as Epiphanytide, also called the Epiphany season.[32][33]

Most Catholic churches these days observe the Twelve Days, but some very old school ones still lump Epihanytide into Christmas.

How did I miss this thread. Heck, we still have our Christmas tree and lights up, but yeah, they don’t come down until January 6th but I know some leave it up until the Baptism of the Lord, the 1st Sunday after the 6th. I could leave mine up ‘til Easter and still wouldn’t find a gift under the tree :(

Update: One of the 2 houses I mentioned turned off the lights a week ago. The other guy, a few doors down from me, still has his lights on. And it’s nothing fancy, just a red LED rope light along the roof line. Curious to see how long he keeps it on.

My lights are still on. Wife has boxes out of attic to put away the ornaments.

trivia alert: the guy 3 doors down from me finally extinguished his sad red LED rope light. I was beginning to think that he was going to keep it on until Mardi Gras.
