Collin Street Bakery makes some decent items like apple cinnamon pecan cakes. But they also make a traditional fruitcake (yuck). It also happens to have pecans. Traditional fruitcakes can have nuts (walnuts, pecans, etc). Hence the phrase “nuttier than a fruitcake.”

Most have more candied fruit than nuts. Agreed it’s not appealing with sickly sweet corn syrup. But Collin Street is completely different.

Just finished the last course. The wives are doing dishes. All was good except that nasty soup.

Fresh watercress from a fresh water pond is a source for worm larvae. You need to boil watercress to eat it. Soup would work as well. The fresh watercress you may find in a salad is grown in a greenhouse (to avoid worms). Otherwise it should always be boiled for 2-3 seconds. Good to know in a foreign country like China.
