St. Patrick is said to have driven the snakes out of Ireland.

Understand that St. Patrick (a Spaniard) and other early Christian missionaries were going into pagan places with human sacrifice, including child sacrifice, and other horrendous things going on. The Druids were not a bunch of nice old Gandalf-like men who peacefully lived in the woods.

Consider the possibility it was a metaphor. Perhaps St Patrick drove out of Ireland those teaching the old Pagan religion and other heretics (snakes).

I got to spend St Paddy's day on Fremont street in Vegas. I had a green beer and a shot of Jamison. Now that place was a hoot!! I've never seen so many naked(painted) females on a public street before.
