NBA Lottery

My guess is that he'll have 2-3 seasons where he's the best player in the world, and then be hurt/limited for the rest of his career. I see a lot of Durant comparisons, but he'd need to put on about 40 pounds just to not tip over.

Could be; hope you're wrong about the injury. You're prolly right about his need to gain weight. He's pretty skinny & a person need to be part linebacker to play in the NBA. Euro-Ball is good, but it's not the banger league that is the NBA.

Cuban got what he deserved by tanking.
Actually it worked out just fine for Cuban and the Mavs. He was fined $750K for tanking and got the 10th overall pick in the NBA draft next month.
Mavs are feeling good about it.

Had they gotten lucky and drawn a higher number it would have been icing on the cake.

David Robinson
Tim Duncan (whom they got because Robinson was hurt one year)
And now Wembamyana
Pretty good luck to win the lottery with those as your first choice in the draft.

the 10th pick? lol
Interesting situation the Mavs were in re: the draft, lottery, etc. Had they not had a top ten pick their pick--11 and above--would have gone to the knicks to finish the Christof Porzingis trade.
So Cuban rolled the dice, tanking to get a worse record which gave the mavs a good chance of getting in the top 10--a lottery pick. There was a chance winning either of the tanked games would have shoved their draft choice out of the top ten; in which case the Knicks get the pick. So tanking actually paid off. Cuban tanked to solidify his chances of getting a top ten pick.
He was OK with the fine the league assessed him. He felt the 10th pick was worth the money ($750K)
Since they tanked, it gave the mavs the last lottery position, the 10th pick. Now the Mavs have to pick a player who makes a significant contribution to winning games, lots of games.

Cuban wanted one of the top 5 - he didn't get it so tanking and having to pay a $750,000 fine for the effort was not worth it.

Cuban consistently overvalues his basketball knowledge.

Kinda like another Dallas sports franchise owner we all know & ...errr...love (?!?!) errr. I just threw up in my mouth a little.

I agree with the Mavs front office that the 10th pick over all is absolutely worth plenty more than $750k.
750k is NBA pocket change. The alternative was getting no first round pick at all. That would have been a foolish mistake.

Indeed. Lucky not only in their percentage of getting #1, but also in the years it happened for them.

Of course they wanted a top 4 pick.

Tanking the last 2 games (two games is so overblown by the media with others doing it for half a season) is just not a deal at all. But giving the knicks the 12th pick and a chance for a top 4 pick is, by far, the worst choice. They avoided that. Good move

If the upcoming pick fell outside the top 10, Dallas would have lost the pick because of a conditional trade they made with another team who I don't recall at the moment. Because it's #10 the Mavs get a first round pick vs not having one at all. Seems Cuban actually knew what he was doing.
