Madness in Prosper, Texas

At first I thought it was a stadium to be used by all Prosper schools which made some sense of cost
But apparently not
 
I can't find an answer to whether it is an ISD stadium which would make sense
BUT the bond is on the Nov7 ballot
so it hasn't been passed yet
 
CyFair spent $80+ million on the Berry Center. but it is used by 13 schools and includes a gym/performing arts center. I think the stadium seats around 15,000

Bonds are approved by taxpayers, regardless of whether or not it affects their bottom line.

It's for the entire ISD and the expected growth (like the article says, they'll be up to 6 high schools within the next 10 years). That huge chunk of land east of Custer but outside McKinney ISD and Celina ISD has already started to explode with more development.

Celina's next, too. The exurb flight is going to continue north. I wouldn't be surprised if Celina gets up to 6A and builds a few more schools in that time frame as well.

Thanks for the insight. I know the school district doesn't want to go crazy by adding schools (like Frisco) since a bond package that was recently approved is for expanding and modernizing many of the older elementary/middle/HS's.
 
After Allen built their state of the art stadium (don't remember the cost) 10 years ago or so, McKinney one-uped them and built a $70MM stadium about 5 years ago. I voted against the add on tax increase we were subject to for the stadium - it passed anyway.

$100MM for a new Prosper ISD stadium just seems obscene!!!

I've been to Berry Center a couple of times to see Drum Corps International events. That is one nice venue.

WM, a $70 MM stadium 5 years ago probably would cost at least $100MM today (just like replacing your BMW will cost you more).
 
All this money spent on games which are largely poorly attended.

DCF chose The Reservation as the #1 stadium experience in the state. Built in 1952, it has been expanded a couple of times, replaced grass with turf (after the first turf was faulty and a lawsuit got it replaced with refunds), and a video scoreboard added.

Big homefield advantages? The humidity and the smell of what was the world's largest chemical complex located two blocks away AND the smell of Pure Oil, Gulf Oil, Atlantic Richfield, Mobil Oil, 3 Texaco plants, Texas Gulf Sulphur, Magnolia Petroleum.

Jump on the opponents early before they learn to breath.
 
Berry Center seats just over 11,000. Opened in 2006, it was the first of the "mega" HS football stadiums in Texas. I've been doing PA work there and the older stadium (Pridgeon) for some time now. Pridgeon was upgraded about five years ago and actually has a better press box than Berry. Seen some amazing games there and some amazing athletes. I remember when ESPN did a game at Berry and Andre Johnson and several other Texans were on the sideline. In all the years I think Berry has sold out about 3-4 times. Trey Owens from Cy Fair HS is one of UT's commits. Good size, good arm, but has not played against very good competition as the Spring Branch schools are in that district. We'll see what Sark can do with him.

CFISD has about 120,000 students, and its HS football teams play in 2 separate districts and two separate regions. 12 high schools (soon to be 13) and 20 middle schools. Its a major undertaking. The former AD Ray Zepeda is now head of football operations at the UIL. Not bad for an old country district that only had one high school (Cy Fair) for many years. While Cypress is not incorporated it is estimated to have a population in excess of 600,00 today.

Last note of interest. The best two HS players I have seen in the district were Russell Shepherd (Cy Ridge) who went to LSU (ESPN #1 recruit) his senior year and most recently Harold Perkins (Cy Park) who is currently at LSU and was the number 1 linebacker in his class. For any Ags out there, Conner Weigman (Bridgeland) was also tremendous (his junior year was better than his senior year).

Sorry-I'm not sure what the 9.9% refers to. While the bond election for the Berry Center was a little contentious it passed easily. Given the growth of the district a second stadium wasn't a want, it was a need. The entire complex (basketball arena, meeting rooms for both large and small events, and the stadium are very functional) saves the district money that would otherwise be spent. For example, prior to the Berry Center the district had to rent NRG to handle graduation ceremonies. That was costly and a burden on the students and their families to drive there. Now they are held at the Berry Center (basketball arena).

When I was 10 my grandfather (Supt of Goose Creek ISD) took me to see Stallworth Stadium in Baytown when the construction was complete. I remember thinking that was the nicest stadium I had ever seen. How times have changed.

Ha! And I thought it was bad playing a game at Galena Park!

That reminds me of a friend from Wyoming. He said his town had a feedlot just North of town and a paper mill just South of town. And the wind would usually blow from the North or the South. You'd catch it either way.

Worst thing about playing at Galena Park's old stadium wasn't the air pollution but rather 3-4 foot high mound of dirt inside the fence about the 30 yardline. It had been there so long that it was covered in grass. I was there the night Kenny Williams (???) was going deep and he and the DB were running full speed and looking back for the ball when they hit that thing. Williams knee looked like it went through his jaw - goodbye 9.6 speed.
