If any of you is ever in Charleston. Lewis Barbeque opened a couple years ago there. He helped Franklin Barbeque in Austin start up and then went out on his own in Charleston, SC. Lines are not long like Franklins but this is excellent Texas Barbeque in South Carolina! I had the Brisket and it was excellent! Better than Black's in Lockhart. I have not waited in those lines at Franklin's so I don't know how it compares to there's.

I don't know Vol, but I will look it up. We found a lot of biography about the owner online which is why we went there. My wife knows I love Texas BBQ so we had to find something in Charleston. Great City too.

I got this right off of his website. John Lewis is his name. I did not get to meet him.
You just can't go to Charleston without eating here:

"After a stint in Denver honing his craft in the competition barbecue circuit, John returned to Austin in 2010 to help his friend Aaron Franklin as he opened Franklin Barbecue. While there, John pioneered the flavor profile that helped put Austin barbecue on the map.

John partnered with LeAnn Mueller to open the much-beloved La Barbecue in Austin in 2012. He quickly became the rising star of Austin’s barbecue scene and in just a few short months after opening, La Barbecue made Texas Monthly’s “Top 50 List” and was voted the “Best BBQ in Austin” by the Austin American Statesman.

In March 2015, John packed up his smokers and moved to Charleston to introduce the Holy City to the great world of Texas barbecue. He and his barbecrew opened Lewis Barbecue in June 2016."

It all comes together. Lewis worked for Franklin who learned his craft from John Mueller. John was working with his sister at La Barbecue helping get it started when something went south in their relationship so John was forced out and that's when Lewis was hired to be the pit master. He didnt like the pit so had another one built and a few months later La Barbeque makes Texas Monthly. Looks like some time later he decides he wants his own business so he moves across country.

No doubt that's some damned good bbq since he worked with/learned from Franklin and the Mueller family.
