I know Gmail has a great spam filter, but I have my own family domain so our email comes through our mail server. I got so sick of all the crap in my Inbox I decided to try something that has really helped.
I am pretty good at keeping my contacts list current, so the vast majority of email I get is from people or organizations that I have added to my contacts. So I created a rule in my email client (Mac Mail) that checks all incoming mail to see if it is from a sender in my contacts—if not, the message goes into the Junk folder.
I occasionally check the Junk folder to see if there's something in there that I want, and add that sender to my contacts so that they won’t get “junked” again. My Inbox is clean now.
Any anti-spam tricks you have to share?
