JULY 2 UPDATE
The site will be down for several hours starting at 9:30 PM this Thursday, July 4. Final updates will be applied, database work, testing, etc. If it’s still offline Friday morning just know that I am working through any issues to bring it back online asap.
There are some little site details that I will continue to work on in the coming days, but the main stuff should all be working. If you find something that’s broken let me know.
A few things to note:
Account login
You will log in as usual with your existing username and password. If you need to reset your password for any reason, PM me or use the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page and I will send you a temporary password. Or email [email protected] directly.
Font size
I made the fonts a little bigger in some areas. If it makes things look wonky let me know.
Server errors
Some of you have experienced server errors occasionally when pasting certain image formats into a post. This should be fixed now.
Post Ratings
Hover (don’t click) your mouse over the
icon to show the rating options popup, then click to select one.
On mobile, touch the
icon to show the rating options.
Resize photos in your post
When you add a photo to your post you will see little resize handles on the corners of the image - click & drag any of those handles to resize the image to the dimensions you like. Click the image once to activate the handles again.
Giphy
Giphy is an online database of animated GIFs, and it’s integrated into the new post editor so you can easily search up a GIF to drop right into your post. This is just something fun, play around with it sometime if you like this kind of thing. There is a search bar along the top to help you find the right one.
In the new post editor some functions are hidden behind the 3 dots, so click that to reveal more options.
I will be doing some much needed technical upgrades soon — new server, updated forum software, and a few other details — so some things will look a little different at first but everything should work just as you expect it to.
(The current Hornfans.com technical setup has been in place for nearly a decade, if you can believe that. We launched the new Hornfans 2.0 in February 2015.)
As soon as the main upgrades are done and tested, and any remaining bugs are squashed, I will work on other little details that need to be brought current. Your patience is appreciated!
I don’t have a firm date for this work yet but I will keep everyone informed as things proceed, and let you know what to expect. These are major system upgrades so there may be a little downtime, and I will do everything I can to minimize that. I have put this off for as long as I can but for technical & security reasons it is no longer an option.
