Game Experience rant

Way over produced. This is only getting worse. Why is there a DJ constantly talking, loudly in a “DJ
Voice” before every play and after every play?
The music is also constant between plays.
I used to be able to talk to the people around me.
Granted I’m north of 50.

I agree with you. I am dropping my season tickets after 26 years. I will attend 1-2 games instead (probably one non-conference game and one conference game).

I wonder if this is for recruiting or if Del Conte thinks he can get the t-shirt low football IQ fans in’Austin to get excited as a pro game experience?

I agree with all of you, however I believe it's unfortunately here to stay given the world we now live it. My biggest beef is the fact they pipe the band over the sound system, meaning everything they play is always a note or two off between the actual performance and what you hear over the speakers. Trying to clap in unison during Texas Fight is hard enough for folks without rhythm like me...

Well I went with my 19 year old to the Kansas game and he enjoyed it. I did think it was a more lively experience than when we had season tickets in the early 2000s. A night time game would be fun I think.

I bet every stadium's game day is exactly like DKR. It for some reason is now the trend
And God forbid any major stadium experience not be on trend.

I just wished they alternate quarters (1st and 3rd quarters old school and 2nd and 4th new school).

The whole gameday experience isn't something I care to experience ever again. And I've quit watching LHN's pregame stuff, especially when it's live outside the stadium. The way our fans act behind the analysts makes me sick. Their broadcasts from Yeti HQ when the Horns are out of town are just as bad.

And while I'm on this rant. The Hellraisers in the 90s and early 2000s were pretty funny on TV. The Hellraisers now? Dudes with 38DD boobs and girls in tube tops that accentuate their muffin tops. I hate that's what people see when they watch our games.

Don’t like the DJ overkill or the look of the new style Hellraisers but some of the new stadium hype is kinda cool. I think the student section better have some type of gas masks though.
Oh, and I will say when the music is not the band my favorites are God Bless Texas and Born a Tx Longhorn at the end (well that and the Eyes of course).
And if my host keeps offering me his tickets I’ll be back because I do like the team and that’s why I go. .

I agree with what y'all have said, but have actually found this year a marked improvement over the last several. Do I like it? Hell no; first time WWE comes to Austin, I'd stuff that announcer in the cargo bin of the bus and send him back. They can keep the canned noise (it ain't music), replacing the cheerleaders with jumbotron noise.

While not "Texas", this year the carnival barker has toned down a notch; the cheerleaders are getting a couple of routines in instead of none; Pom gets their one dance; my jury is out on the "First down Texas FIGHT'.

All of this said, Chris has introduced a whole new gameday experience, with a FULL stadium each week; not just "full", but loud and rowdy. It is a far cry from the golf clap crowd sitting in the club.

Back when we favored good sommeliers over good coaches...

I miss hearing the band. We gave up season tickets years ago because I couldn't afford $600+ a week in game expenses. Ticket, donation, food, drink, etc. I pick one or two "off" games where I can score cheap tickets and go then.

I get that times change, things evolve, game day experience change, etc. but the one game I attended last year in Austin - I too thought I'm getting old. Due to wife health issues I cannot make it to a game in Austin this season.

The ou game in 2022 I attended is the game day experience it should be - not a lot of PA guy gibberish / BS, not a great deal of loud and obnoxious music / commercials. The ou game day experience was more about the emotions of the crowd due to the game on the field and the bands!

Worster,

I was going to disagree with you, but then I remembered that the people sitting next to you were so loud & obnoxious that you probably never heard the PA.

The pA guy is my biggest complaint, as I’ve said before but I do think the overall obnoxious volume of the Jumbotron has been reduced slightly. Of course could be just a hearing loss.

Is it smoke or CO2? It appears to be colored CO2 but not sure.

Sorry, but that is UGLY!

OK, don't hate on me, but I would wear that if it was given to me, and I am 62. Full disclosure, I used to wear a women's golf cap (I bet most of you don't even know what that is since they have not made em like that in a looong time) back in the 80s because it sure got me noticed and I thought I was being "out there". Probably I just looked stupid.

I'm somewhere in the middle. I'm pushing 40, but I really enjoy the music mixed with band play. The "smoke" is a little weird to me, but at least it's in the student section, I suppose. I love the lights during night games.

The music seems to pump up our student section, and the north end zone, which is usually a rowdier crowd than the west-siders. I think this resonates with our players and gets them hyped as well. My seats are actually in the south end zone, so my only complaint is the volume of the jumbotron. I have found that if I just wear ear plugs, it makes for a pretty enjoyable experience. I'm able to appreciate all of the music without leaving with hearing damage.

Either way, Hook 'Em! :hookem:
