We're planning to see the Horns at the Empire Classic in Madison Square Garden. We've never attended such an event, a 4 team tournament. With the ticket prices we're seeing it looks like we'll only see the Horn's second game. Can we expect to pick up tickets at the gate, from a fan who's team isn't in the final (assuming the Horns are) or some other method? I've always wondered about such events when there is no guarantee when a team will play. Any advice from experienced tournament goers thoroughly appreciated.

It depends on who makes the final. If it’s UT vs UConn, I don’t think there will be a lot of disappointed Hoosiers or Cardinals looking to dump tickets. But if it’s UT vs Indiana, the market will be flooded and prices will fall.

Sounds reasonable. So where would these possible tickets be found, near the gate (like scalpers), formal purchase at the gate, or all done thru the wizardry of phones?

Wizardry. Tickets are available on SeatGeek and VividSeats at the moment.

It's also possible that there will be tickets at the gate if sponsors don't pick up their tickets. Those sometimes go on sale a short time before tipoff. But buying something through the app would be more reliable.
