This is the best yet, maybe ever. How you were able to touch on so many relevant subjects is amazing.
From recapping the Olympics including the new tribute at the Golf course to how drinking water during practice evolved to a coach who elevated her sport at Texas to Worster left off CFHF and of course DKR's 100th( I did not realize this was his 100thl , all in one article All so timely.
Just thank you.:hookem2:

SINCERE THANK YOU Billy for establishing the Legacy Support Network and your awareness of ALL UT Athletics.

I'm especially pleased and humbled for your article about Worster being in the College Football HOF. He was a WARRIOR and clearly should be there!

He was the #1 national recruit out of Bridge City HS in 1966 and DKR got him. Played on the Frosh team in 1967, as required at the time.

He was a pivotal part in the Horns 30 game winning streak from 1968-1970. Injured vs aggy late Nov. 1970.

JAN. 1, 1971, ND keyed on him because he gained 150 yards on them Jan. 1 1970.

He played poorly and fumbled several times. I'm sad that was his last game and some may only remember that.

Worster,

I think one of the best complements paid Woo was from DKR when Joe Paterno brought his staff to Austin to learn how to install the Wishbone at State Penn.

DKR told him, "Coach, you don't want my offense, you want my fullback".

I wonder how many days it took Steve Worster to recover from one game to the next. He earned every yard he got and also took or gave hits on nearly every play.
Worster was one tough son of a gun!

Paul Zeek made Woo a custom rib protector in HS by making a plaster mold of the area that he turned into a foam-lined, fiberglass protector that was held in place by elasticon (sp).

While I don't often say nice things about OA Phillips, he recruited Woo for Third Ward, but told him, "never pick a school because of a coach, because chances are he won't be there as long as you are". True to his word, Bum was gone with Sid Gillman to the Chargers and Woo was still starting for the Horns.

Reading the article on Randy Willis reminded me of some of the same coaches I had in Angleton. Carl Davis is one of the few on that staff that are still with us. At least he was a year or so ago. Fred Johnson took over for Cotton Peterson when I entered 7th grade. Norman Cobb was on Peterson’s staff, but left Angleton when Johnson came in.
Both Johnson and Cobb won state championships years later. Johnson at Midlothian and Cobb at Mexia.
I’m thinking we drank out of the same moldy bottles of water and were given 4 salt tablets when given a break. Although not high quality H2O, that small bottle of water never tasted so good.
Two-a-days were tough and I still get leg cramps thinking about it. Thing is, I’d do it all again!
