I'm a fan since before Staubach was a rookie. Watching Trey Lance today. If he's the contingency should Jerry be unable to sign Dak...then he's looking to burn it down and rebuild.
 
Jordan Whittington led the Rams in targets and catches in the preseason game. He's easily a lock for the practice squad, if not a 5th WR type.

The Cowboys looked... bad? It's hard to average something as poor as 4.6 ypa throwing it, and they pulled it off. I guess I wouldn't put much into it.

I was a Cowboy fan from their first season, mostly because Don Meredith was my best friend's cousin.

If didn't bother me when Jones hired Barry because it brought to the forefront the fact that Jerry couldn't get anyone to work for him. Barry did it as a favor for an old friend. He sure as hell didn't need the money, and it was only for one year. Barry derived certain local tax advantages by being a "Texas resident".

Even more fun was that after that one year, Jerry still couldn't get anyone to take over a Championship team, and he had to bring Barry back. Not sure he's still not paying Barry for that one. Either way, it demonstrated Jones status among athletes and coaches. Yes, he has made a lot of money off the Cowboys, while making all the other owners more money than they would have ever seen otherwise, but he ain't winning the "Mr Congeniality Award" anytime soon.

Texas only has two NFL teams, and I can't stand to watch either.

If Barry came back for the 2nd year (Super Bowl win), why did he keep coming back in 1996-97? Still couldn't find anyone? They tanked until the Chan Gailey hire.

He enjoyed the tax advantages of being a Texas resident, being 30 minutes away from his mentor and closest friend, and Jerry's larger than life paychecks, although he didn't need the money.

Then there is Jones thinking that Barry & Snuffy would sell lots of overpriced bad tickets north of the Red River.

But you hit the main reason being he was the only one that put up with Jones.

Jerrah, Jimmah,and Barney Switzer, aka "Bootleggers Boy" were all teamates on on Frank Broyles Arkansas team in 1964-65.

5) Who did DKR refuse to let Fred hire as an assistant?

How thorough was he? Once when he stopped by my house to see the kids, I asked him where he'd been; "couple of days at Northbrook". "WHY? I've known the kid since he was about 10. No improvement" "That's where you're wrong. Yes, he only made one more tackle as a senior than as a sophomore, but his first year he was all over the field. As a senior, all of his stops were within two yards of the line of scrimmage."

Next day, I ask Northbrook HC Hal Ferguson about his visit. Hal said he asked for a room and the film of the kid's games. Hal said they gave him the senior year, and coach said, "I thought he started three years". Hal said he sat in that room and watched all 30 game films.

When he left my house, he asked, "when are you going to see your mother?" Then he asked, "would you stop by Carolyn's parents' graves and leave some flowers"

Best coach I've ever known.

No, but Coach & Barry recommended Majors hire Jimmy Johnson as his OL coach when he went to Iowa State. (Jimmy was coaching junior high football in nowhere Mississippi. I think his son was less than a year old.

Several years back a few of us started tracking D-1 players by state. Surprisingly, Mississippi had the highest percentage per population, followed closely by Louisiana.
