It's the offseason. Post band related stuff here. We've got a great band and they should be much appreciated.

I love March Gradioso. It cracks me up when Tech people say 'you stole that song from us.' Suggestion (really more for the cheerleading squad): go back to the March Grandiosi chant "T E X A S Texas Fight" not "T E X A S Texaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas Fight" (where you draw out the "Texas").

I like it when our band plays loud. Pre-Mack Brown, there was a time when the band seemed to focus so much on precision they weren't nearly loud enough.

I liked the tv college football in the '80s and before where they showed the bands play during halftime. Fans can flip over to Sportscenter for more highlights. Let's see the bands play on tv at halftime.

Love our (often complex) drum line cadences we play.

I wish they'd do the Texas Texas Yee Haw cheer more often.

To the best of my knowledge, the Rose Bowl is the only time you'll see the bands on TV, and even they show only about half the performance.

The Rose Bowl has a certain mystique to it, and it's mostly because they're among the only decision-making people that understand what makes college football special.

Question: when did people start moving their "Horns Up" with every word when singing "The Eyes"? When I was at school many moons ago, everyone stood with their horns up until we sang "til Gabriel blows his horn", and then we would hookem. I still do that, but I'm apparently outnumbered by the fans around me and many of the players. WTH?

With respect to March Grandiosi, I recall drawing out the word Texas way back in the 80s.

As far as The Eyes, I'm not sure why the holding of the Horns has degenerated into the bob, but at least we aren't conducting some sort of Fish camp that indoctrinates everyone on the proper way to do it.

To me, bobbing the hand horns up and down on every note is reminiscent of the hand motions (using two finger bunny ears) for when I sang 'Little Bunny Foo Foo' to my kids when they were 3.

That's a very UT-unique cheer that draws both fascination and laughs from fans of the out of state teams we don't play often. To me, it says 'Yeah, we're Texas, and we don't give a flying f$&@! what the rest of the world thinks about us.'

It also features some impressive high flying David Lee Roth--style aerial leg splits by the cheerleaders.

I think they should have some sort of competition or rotation and that schools band plays halftime of the Super Bowl.
It would beat the **** out of any thing I've seen recently.

All of that takes about...5 minutes.

It takes five minutes to get the lines and more to bet; restroom lines take even more time, unless you were at the one at Leland Stanford, Jr in the 80s, in which case the lines were well over an hour, but most men were just peeing over rail from the top of the stadium.

The state's flagship university, THE University of Texas, does not play THE state song at sporting events. "Texas, Our Texas" is a beautiful song that should leave a lump in the throat of all true Texans. It should also be played anytime our band makes an appearance. I know I am in the minority on this, but I could not let a thread on the Showband pass without bringing it up.

We wouldn't want to do that because the Aggies do it, which means all the out of state jackasses in our administration have never heard of a "State Song". It appears that the current band director plays something that sounds a little like "Texas, Our Texas", but since the band plays it to the east side, who knows what it is. If it is intended to be "Texas, Our Texas", it does not provide the State Song the dignity and honor it deserves.

With a coonass for a band director and a Berkerkley reject for a president wannabe, not sure you'll get your wish any time soon.

Sometime around 1990 or so the blue hairs were getting very, very upset that a segment of the student body was yelling "Give em hell, give em hell, Make them eat sh!t" instead of "Give em hell, give em hell, go Horns go!" In the fight song. The admin got so upset they threatened to not allow the fight song to be played at games. Instead the Wabash Cannonball would be the new fight song.

The sensible heads among the alumni prevailed, and the admin came to realize that only a segment of students were doing it and it just wasn't worth changing our traditional fight song over.

Understand that a segment of the blue hairs back then were still not over the long-past switch from "Hail, hail the gang's all here!" to "Give em hell, give em hell, go Horns go!" They didn't like people shouting "hell."

I was never in the "make them eat sh!t" crowd, but IMHO that's no reason to change our fight song from Texas Fight to the Wabash Cannonball. The Wabash Cannonball is a good song, but as a fight song it's lame compared to Texas Fight.

Hate to bust your bubble, but the "make em eat ****" was popular in the early 70s when many of today's "blue hairs" were in school.

I specifically remember some OU fans walking into a place on lower Greenville Friday afternoon of OU Weekend, and the chant instantly erupted. They quickly left. I would also note that the cheers were led by a close friend of mine - BBA '69 & MBA '70

Yeah, I know that's been around a long time. It came to a head around 1990 or so with the admin trying to stomp it out. Sometimes trying to stomp out something just brings more attention to it and makes it more prominent...

I recall playing "Texas Our Texas" once or twice while in LHB (2003). We'd include it in the pregame show if we needed to drag out the time a little bit (team wasn't ready to run on the field).

No one in the band liked playing it. It's a long, unexciting song.

Actually, the LHB has played an arrangement of "Texas, our Texas" in several pregame shows during the past three years. But it's such an up-tempo version that you might not have recognized it until they played the final refrain. (i.e., it's not the traditional version)

My daughter has been in the LHB for the past 3 years (Texas Drums). Her first time to take the field was the UT-Notre Dame game in 2016. She had traveled to state playoff games when she was in high school band, but of course there's no comparison to stepping off into DKR when Notre Dame is in town.

She's the cymbal player closest to the camera in this video.
