Full disclosure - I haven't read the opinion yet. However, I see two things that give me cause for concern. First, it exempts the military academies. Why?? If racial discrimination is unconstitutional, it's unconstitutional, regardless of what government entity is doing it.

Second, the majority opinion is by Roberts. Ordinarily that wouldn't give me pause, because despite his wimpiness on a lot of issues, he has generally been solid on race-hustling. However, three of the conservatives on the Court authored concurring opinions. Why did they feel the need to do this unless the opinion is weak? Again, I'll read the opinion before fully judging it, but that's not a good sign.

You can tell when one side is losing and they know it: never ending dumbfûckery. Negotiate 5 days with the Chinese (multiple times) for contracts worth $5-50m and you can spot when they lose all discipline in their rhetorical arguments.

The Court didn’t rule out things like preference based on geographical origin. So if UT wants to let in a ton of minorities because they’re native Texans, they can probably get away with it.
