Hard to believe VB season is basically 2 months away.

OPP/MB Marieke Van Der Mark transfers from Baylor to SMU, glad I don’t have to watch her obnoxious celebrations after every point scored anymore.

2020 Big 12 Libero of the Year also from BU Shanel Bramschreiber transfers to Wisconsin.

The Bears also lost 2019 National POY Yossiana Presley and last years B12 Setter of the year Hannah Sedgwick both to graduation.

BU has been our only competition in recent history and they are not going to be nearly as competitive after losing their best player at every position. We should have no issue winning our 6th straight regular season title and 12th of the last 13 seasons

The separation of talent between us and anyone else in our league looks as big this year as it has in at least 5 or 6 seasons. Moving to the SEC is going to help us in this sport as much as any other, we need some actual competition to prepare us for the tourney.

purely looking at our preseason roster, this is the best collective team on paper I can remember us having, maybe ever. I am excited for the possibilities and ready to get started

So who is the primary competition this year in the Big XII? Kansas?

Longhorns Voted Big 12 Volleyball Favorite for 12th Consecutive Year

Jerritt and the rest of the Big 12 coaches believe it will remain Baylor. I believe it will be any or all of Baylor, KU and ISU. I'd love to see KSU and Tech get better.

Baylor is a very young team and they won't have Pressley to rescue them from horrible passing. I'm really surprised that VDM and Bramschreiber were not convinced or asked to play their Covid year in Waco. They need the experience & depth. Where Baylor could end up fielding a team of mostly freshmen with Harrison (OH) and McGhee (MB) as seniors; Texas can do the complete opposite and field a team of Super Seniors with one Senior (Phillips) and one Junior (Skinner) who just happens to be a national champion. There is no Big 12 team with as much experience as Texas and I don't really see a team as young as Baylor being their primary competition.

KU is interesting because they had a good NCAA showing last year but then Crawford, their star middle blocker, transfers to Wisconsin to supposedly replace Retke. Wisconsin is so deep at middle blocker she could wind up on the bench. I'm not sure this poll was taken before Bechard got Lauren Dooley to replace her from the portal. She's a 6th year from Florida, a totally different type of MB than Crawford but she's 6'6". KU is also young. KU was the only team we played a 5 setter against in Big 12 play last year. I'd expect the game in Lawrence to be good competition.

I'm hoping for a more competitive Big 12 season than what we've seen over the last two years. I don't think any of the teams except Texas thrived in the back-to-back match format. In fact, many struggled with it. Going back to home and away will give us matches in Ames, Lawrence, Manhattan, Waco and Morgantown all in the same season. We've even gotten competitive matches @ Norman & Ft Worth in the past. I don't see that happening this year though. OU has issues and Ft Worth has a new coach and they now play in the basketball arena.

I was also very surprised to hear VDM and Bram. transferred. That was a big blow for the bears. BU did get a nice MB transfer from A&M so with Mghee they will have a decent middle but every other position as you have noted is extremely young, 8 freshman is a lot.

I think KU and KST will be the best teams.

Although KU lost Crawford they do return last seasons B12 FOY OH Caroline Bien and another good MB in Rachel Langs and Bachard is a good coach.

Also think that KST could be pretty good. They brought in a good freshman class a couple seasons ago that are one year older and more experienced; the Wildcats also are well coached and JR Aliyah Carter is probably the best OH in the B12 that doesn’t wear burnt orange. I was very surprised that they didn’t fare better in conference play last season but expecting them to this year.

One month till season opener. Practice should start in 2 weeks or less.

Kayla Caffey of Nebraska was denied a 7th year by Nebraska and entered the transfer portal Tuesday. She has since began to follow Eggleston and assistant coach David Hunt on instagram. Fall practice begins in about a week for everyone so her announcement of a transfer destination should come in the next couple days. I’m hoping it’s Texas:hookem:

How can we add to a team with 17 already on the roster??

I have no idea how the scholarships work and who has what but I assume players like O’Neal and Eggleston are using NIL money to pay for school so scholarships can go elsewhere. 18 will be the one of if not the biggest roster we’ve ever had but if Caffey wants to come to Texas you take her. She was recently in Austin visiting Akana a few weeks ago and was hanging with the rest of the team so it’s a strong possibility she comes to Texas.

It looks like Kayla Caffey will be joining our team. I know Texas has the most money and will find a way for her to come to Texas. She has followed Logan Eggleston, Zoe Fleck, Marianna Singletary, Makenna Miller, Saige K Torres, Madi Skinner, Emma Halter, Jenna Ewert, Deandra Pierce, and Asjia O'Neal recently. And she has also followed David Hunt and Jordan Larson from the coaching staff. And a bonus is Zoe Fleck’s mom followed her. And moms usually follow their children’s teammates. Kayla Caffey was in Austin on July 5th.

This will probably be the first time that Texas will be able to have an orange and white scrimmage with only their team and no help from former past players.

4 possible liberos/ds
Halter
Akana
Fleck
Heinrich

5 middles.
O’ Neal
Singletary
Bergmark
Phillips
Pierce

3 setters
SKT
Crownover
Ewert

4 outsides
Eggleston
Skinner
Parra
Miller

3 possible opposites
Phillips
Skinner
Kawahahai

I’m super excited and there’s a possibility of Kayla Caffey joining the roster. If she does and even if she doesn’t which freshman do you think will redshirt? If Kayla Caffey doesn’t come do you think he will move Molly back to MB which is her actual position and out Kawahahai in as opposite? Or What about the middle transfer Bergmark. So many talented girls this year….

I believe Singletary redshirts. She has too much talent for her to waste a year on the sideline. Texas will have plenty of depth in the middle especially if Caffey joins the team.

My understanding is there are 12 scholarships. I have no idea if partial scholarships are available…..splitting one for two players or similar.

Erik Sullivan has now followed Kayla Caffey on Instagram. He joins David Hunt and Jordan Larson. Kayla follows Hunt and Larson back.

Hawaii and Long Beach State are also interested and have scholarships available. Texas does not but Caffey wants to play for a national championship. So it’s her decision whether she wants a natty or a scholarship. Out of the three schools Kayla pretty much follows all of Texas and the coaching staff. She only follows the assistant coach from Long Beach.

I for one will be glad when this recruiting season is over. Come Go, Leave Stay, do it or not and lets move on!!
