Wow, this is huge. The other day I saw another player transfer out of Ole Miss. I wonder if this change has them wondering if they jumped too soon.

Traschel knows her stuff!

I was listening to a podcast that spent a majority of the time talking about the goings on at Ole Miss. They said, "Regardless of who the next coach was, Jacobsen was transferring. She had done all she could do at Ole Miss"

That last phrase always has me scratching my head. Note, this is from these non-partisan softball junkies. Does that mean:

1. She saw what her team could be next year and didn't think it could get any better?
2. She wanted to get on a team that was on the rise rather than one going down?
3. She couldn't get any better with the coaches that were on the staff?

Also a tidbit about one of the reasons that Traschel left Minnesota. Her original contract was to expire May 31st and they were only offering her a 1 year extension. For the coach who got you to the WCWS for the only time!? I suspect they are panicking over future budget issues with this pandemic.

Had also read some posts on another board that Molly's graduate major was not offered by Ole Miss, but it was at Texas. So, perhaps there's more to softball for her reasons to transfer.

That was supposed to be one of the "requirements" for gaining graduate transfer status. Most schools have a couple of specialized graduate programs so the bar isn't very high. Also, remember they only have to take one class a semester and that class does not have to be an on-campus class (it can be online).

SECN showing Molly pitching against #15 Arkansas in 2019; in the bottom of 5th inning.

EDIT: of course, then she gets pulled after a base hit and a walk.

Mia Camuso is in the portal. Think she reunited with some former Ducks?

Also noticed that Jade Gortarez is in the portal. Think she could wind up back in Burnt Orange?

I had completely forgotten about Jade. Apparently, she left the ASU program before the first game of her senior season this past February. So, I guess that would count as a redshirt season, leaving her one year of eligibility remaining. But, you only get a one-time transfer in softball with immediate eligibility. So, if she is a grad-transfer, that gives her immediate eligibility wherever she lands. If she's not a grad transfer, not sure how it plays out for her.

ASU softball shortstop Jade Gortarez leaving program

Snooping on her twitter page has her following a bunch of Louisiana-Lafayette players and coaches.

She sure could help us at shortstop:

Jade Gortarez - Softball - Arizona State University Athletics

Great detective work. Camuso was injured her junior year, so gets 2 years of eligibility? And Gortarez, I'd forgotten she left the program. Well, I can never know the back story of both those transfers, but the fact they are double-transfers is interesting.

And a big NO on taking back Jade - assuming she'd even look our way.

Does Texas even have enough space available to take in anymore transfers? Our roster with the addition of Jacobsen is now at 26 for the 2021 season unless some players decide to transfer.

Hearing Grace Green has entered the portal, can anyone validate?
[shrug]
Last year, it was somewhat easier to track those in the portal at Justin's World of Softball, but now that's behind a paywall.

The tricky part is when you google "grace green softball", you keep hitting the better known player at OU with the same name.

Per the Austin American Statesman

Yup, there it is. For Tuesday, yeah 4 years and she could never getting her batting average up. As for Green, it's amazing that 1/3 of an awful inning was enough to tell both parties she didn't have a future at UT. I guess with these modified rules she'll have 4 full years at her next stop. Best wishes for her.

I think grace green really could benefit from a place where she will get to hit too. I hope she goes to like a North Texas, Texas State, or Sam Houston to possibly get one of. those mid majors up a level.

Was is even 1/3 of an inning? I didn’t remember her getting a single out!

I hope she finds a good fit for her. I am sad to see her go...that absolutely atrocious outing aside, I know she has talent and I really wanted to see her break through in the future, but I understand she didn’t wanna wait two years to see any real playing time. Could be a really good player at the dish and in the circle if she is able to return to her past form.

Wishing her all the best.

I'm sure she probably sucked at practice too. Surely White didn't evaluate her on 1/3 of an inning alone. Some kids just can't take that next level step. Who knows, she may turn into a beast. I'm sure Elish returning, Day looking solid, etc..lead her to her wanting to start over someplace else.

Well, yeah I didn't to come out and diss a player I don't know or haven't seen in practice. After all, they're 18 year old kids just out of HS.

But yeah, Mike wouldn't have agreed to that transfer if he had more in his bullpen.

Jana Johns, South Carolina star third baseman, enters NCAA transfer portal

Texas went after A&M's Bailey Klingler last summer; wonder if we'll pursue this 3B (if she doesn't already have her mind made up about where she's headed)

Might be possible but say she were to come to Texas then I think she might have to move to the shortstop position because I think Mary has the 3rd base position on lock unless she wants to make the move back to catcher but then that will take Sullivan or Ellsworth out of the lineup. It's really a mystery honestly because we all know coach White never has a set lineup. We see a new one each game but I love it so whatever he does it will come together.

We picked up another transfer:

Brianna Cantu from Texas Tech League city Texas

She hit .200 in 8 starts last years. I've seen her play with Impact Gold and she is legit though the numbers don't represent it. A true utility player, can catch, play if, or OF.

Yes if Mike White recruited her with a packed roster then I know he sees something that her numbers haven't shown.
