Nothing much to report except that Charlie is doing terrible so far
... 247sports has our class listed at #21 right now, and we will never ever catch TCU who are at #3 and Baylor at #7. It is the same old crap. Does Charlie even know how to recruit? Aggy was #2 by summer last year and we were pushing toward #20... You can't fall behind like that.... Wait... what?... You mean it went all right last time?
Anyway, currently TCU is at #3 with 5 four-star recruits and 3 three-star guys. Baylor is at #7 with even a 5-star (OT Patrick Hudson) and 4 three-stars. But the prevailing feeling in recruiting circles seems to be that about half of these guys will probably move later, as aggy and Texas starts moving in harder. When you have such successful programs like BU and TCU offering you, you may as well take it up and then wait to see if the bigger name programs will court you hard with the right pitches on playing time and fit. So it is understandable. For a little perspective, WVU was around #7 at this time last year and fell to below 35 in the end.
A&m is at #17 with one 5-star (OT Greg Little of Allen HS, who is Kyler's cousin). Aggy had a junior day on the Jan 23rd weekend which was a bit of a dud, as they were preoccupied with the Charlie attack and had no time to go hard after anybody (with 3 top invitees being no-shows). But aggy will get going soon too.
We currently have two top-150 4-star WR commits (both top-100 on scout) in Colin Johnson (Johhnnie's son) and Regggie Hemphil-Mapp, and a 3-star who is expected to finish as a 4-star, LB Demarco Boyd.
We need at least 2 or 3 DTs and at least 3 OLs next time, along with a couple of safeties and of course a good QB. At other positions, we can take some risks and go for top talents, even if we miss some lower guys because of that.
It will be a smaller class for us next time. As of today, if we sign up no other players till next January, and no attrition happens, we can only pick up 15 players, to stay at 85 or below in total. But that will change. At least about 5 players are expected to be lost on attrition (a couple of Charlie dismissals and the rest transfers, probably) and may be 1 or 2 of the LOI players may not make it in, due to grade issues by June (Ronnie Major being the most probable one). Plus maybe an underclassman could declare for the draft like a Ridgeway or somebody. Generally I expect about 20 to 23 or so spots available next year (one of which will go to Merrick). Working with the assumption of 20 spots looks rather safe for now.
Our junior day was supposed to be next Saturday, as of even last week, but is now postponed to Feb 28th. I will soon post a list of names that appear to be generally confirmed for the junior day.
